Mitsubishi FTO tuning guide.
"FTO - Faster Than Others"
The FTO from Mitsubishi is a reliable and solid sports coupe that can adequetly cope with the daily commute and school run and track days.
Powered by the 6A12 engine you have a good starting point and most cars are pushing out 180BHP.
The NASP 2.0 Mivec engine will benefit from a better induction kit and sports exhaust. Owners who have just fitted an induction kit often remark that the power is slightly down, or a little worse.
To combat this get a sports cat, sports exhaust and then remap the engine paying careful attention to fuelling. This should push the peak power to around the 200bhp mark.
For larger power gains an engine swap is the only real choice. Messing around adding a turbo or supercharger will not be as cost effective as inserting Galant CR4 Twin Turbo 2.5litre lump. Other owners opt to go with an Evo engine swap and there is a steady stream of parts modifications for this.
The handling on the standar car is quite sharp, but it can be improved with a set of adjustable coilovers. We would also recomend an FSE Fuel boost valve and if you go with an induction kit please get a cold air feed pipe.
It is worth noting that on models with the Tiptronic gearbox there is a noticable lack of power. The gearbox appears to soak up around 20bhp of the available power, so for power fans you should stick to a manual box.
