Renault Triber Tuning

"Thank you for reading my Renault Triber tuning guide."

Buying a 7 seater car can still be fun as shown by the new Renault Triber.

It shares the Clio and Sandero 1.0 SCe petrol engine and suits motorway cruising nicely offering good economy. The Turbo charged version is set to improve upon this a great deal when it's released.

The Triber is a brilliant car modification project to take up your weekends. The key to Triber tuning is balancing power and reliability - a lot of money can be wasted if you do it wrong.

Triber Power mods.

The following performance kits are usually installed by our members, decide how far you want to go before you start.

Getting the best sports mods for your planned usage of the car is a time and money saver. Stage 3 motor sport parts just won't work well on the road difficult in stop start traffic.

Please watch our video which covers the 5 principles of tuning your car. Be sure to keep up with our latest YouTube content and subscribe.

Best mods for your Triber

  1. Tunes - A tune/remap provides the most power for the money, replacement ECUs, and Tuning boxes are all alternatives.
  2. Fast road cams are generally the biggest mechanical mod upgrade, but they must be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing and they are not always easy to source but you might find a local firm to regrind a stock camshaft.
  3. Intake Upgrades and Sports Exhausts - NB: on their own these mods won't ADD POWER in most cases, but they can help enhance power after other mods by removing the restriction.
  4. Triber Handling Mods (suspension) - Replacing worn bushings and shocks dramatically improves Triber handling Adjustable coilovers and better bushings are what is needed here.
  5. Braking Mods - Improve your ability to stop should be near the top of your Mods list.
  6. Forced induction upgrades - A New Turbo is the most efficient approach to increase air supply, allowing you to burn more fuel and make more power. Although one of the most costly upgrades but provides the best gains.
  7. Head work - The goals of porting and flowing the head are to get air flowing into the engine while removing flow restrictions and turbulence.

Triber Tuning Stages

Typical stage 1 mods often include: Suspension upgrade (drop 30mm - 42 mm.), Alloy wheels, Engine Tunes/Remapping, Panel air filter, Sports exhaust, Lighter flywheel.

Typical stage 2 mods often include: Power/Sport clutch, Ported and polished head, Fast road cam, high flow fuel injector, fuel pump upgrades.

Typical stage 3 mods often include: Sports gearbox, Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger), Engine balancing, Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves), Competition cam.

Triber Handling/Suspension upgrades

Many Triber owners uprate the handling of their cars with sports suspension modifications as a priority, this will certainly increase your enjoyment of the car.

Good suspension tweaks that radically improve handling for the Triber include a couple of degrees negative camber and 1-1.5 degrees of toe (set out to improve cornering or in for better stability) on the front wheels.

Fully adjustable suspension allows you to fine tune the handling of you Triber greatly benefiting your drive.

Drop the car optimally somewhere in the region of 30mm - 42 mm. and fit sports stiffer dampers, bigger drops will need other modifications in most instances.

Our aim in Triber engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end.

Following our tips for modding your Triber you will end up with a practical sporty car that will potentially embarrass bigger cars.

To be completely frank and honest, on the more modest engine sizes you are wasting your time spending money on modifications, so if this applies to you get yourself an engine swap then apply the following mods.

Triber Brake Mods

For greatly enhanced stopping add better performance pads and mate this with bigger discs.

We should point out that motorsport pads will be noisy and will have to be hot before they are effective.

On a road car the brakes are occasionally used and won't be all that effective so specify friction pads which don't need to be really hot.

Top end power should be your overall aim on the Triber with a nice fat peak torque band.

Peak power is good on competition cars but for a daily driven car you need a long torque band and perhaps extending the rev range.

In this article we shall give a limited introduction to the best performance parts for your car, but we'd encourage you to spend some time on the site looking into the details of each type of performance modification. A fast road camshaft often proves to be one of the best NASP power mods you can do with a single part fitted to your engine.

The intake & exhaust valve timings play a large part in your cars power band, but be careful here, getting this wrong can upset the idle and make the car hard to drive in traffic. You'd need to follow a camshaft upgrade with other mods and finish with a tune/remap to fully realise your gains.

You will need to ensure that the engine is not starved of fuel so will need to ramp up the fuelling.

Using high octane petrol is another option if you find you are suffering from pinking or premature ignition on your Renault project after fitting other sports parts. Uprating the injectors is another beneficial modification and will deliver sufficient fuel.

If you are increasing your fuelling with bigger injectors you will also need to get a bigger fuel pump to supply it.

Triber Intake and Exhaust Tuning.

The next area for modification is the intake and exhaust. Please note that WE DO NOT FIND IMPROVEMENTS WITH INDUCTION KITS, unless you have tuned your car extensively and are finding that the standard air intake has become a restriction.

Induction kits can work well on turbo engines and larger engines (if supplied with a suitable cold air feed or air box), generally though we'd just recommend for Triber engines you should go with a sports panel air filter preferably made from cotton.

Do not go with the biggest exhaust you can buy this will slow the exhaust rate - the best for power gains are usually between 1.5 to 2.5 inches. It is the shape and material more than the bore size.

Head porting and polishing the head will allow you to maximise your air/fuel charge. Leave this to a professional though with a proper flow bench and machine tools A good fast road sports clutch will help to keep that power going where it should. Never skimp or think that the standard OEM clutch to cope. The best mods in our experience for your Triber are Remapping or piggy back ecu, fast road cam and air intake and exhaust.

Turbo engines are just pleading to be flashed. You will see massive power gains on most modern turbocharged cars including diesels making a tune/remap one of the most cost effective and massive modifications for your money.Adding forced induction will see phenomenal power gains but this is usually too expensive to be cost effective. It is generally simpler to bolt on a supercharger than it is to install a turbo. Turbos give boost in exponential proportion to increasing engine speed and this can make mapping difficult.

It is easier to map a supercharger because the boost is correlating to engine speed on a linear curve. Decreasing the engines compression ratio will allow you to add forced induction, water injection may also help prevent detonation.

Alloy wheel upgrades.

The benefits of alloy wheels include a lower unsprung weight and better brake cooling via the extra air flow they allow. Pay attention to your choice of tyres (tires) for your car, a good directional tread pattern tire can really enhance your cars handling. The downside to large rims on your Triber is that you alter your effective final drive ratio and this will have a detrimental effect on acceleration and performance.

Due to this fact aim to keep the overall rolling diameter of the wheel the same as supplied from the factory. In all cases not going over 18 inches.
