Best sleeper cars

"Time to find out what we believe are the best sleeper cars you can buy"

A car can be considered a sleeper if it looks like it's not that fast, but it is!

The term "sleeper" originated in the 1950s when hot-rodders would trick their model into looking slower than they were so other drivers wouldn't realize how fast they could go.

Nowadays, sleeper cars come with turbochargers or supercharger kits which make them faster than most people expect.

This makes them popular among speed enthusiasts and those who enjoy catching unsuspecting drivers off guard on the highway.

This list has everything from cars that have everything out the box and some awesome tuner cars that with little extra tweaks can become an animal. But what are some of the top sleepers?

Plymouth Hemi Cuda

The 1971 Plymouth Barracuda is a great sleeper car because it looks like a typical 1970s family car, but under the hood, it has a powerful engine that can go from zero to 60 mph in under 6 seconds.

The 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda weighs over 40 per cent more than the modern Challenger, but its powerful V8 engine makes it one of the fastest performance vehicles on the road.

The Plymouth Hemi Cuda is a classic American muscle car, an icon of the '70s. It fits the sleeper cars name because it does not look like what you would expect.

Mercedes E63 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is a powerful luxury sedan that can keep up with even the fastest competition.

However, the car will fool any unsuspecting opponent into thinking it's going slow despite looking fast.

This is one car that you shouldn't judge on its exterior because it seems like a standard Mercedes sedan, but when you look under the hood, you will see that it is anything but average.

The E63 AMG has a V8 engine that pumps out an astonishing 518 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque which can carry it from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

When this car accelerates, the speedometer will hit 60 mph before you even realize it.

Here's our contenders for best sleeper cars listed, we'd love to hear your suggestions in the comments section below,

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is a sleeper car that can make some sports cars tremble in their boots. I recommend this car to anyone who craves a luxury sedan but wants something very fast as well.

Subaru WRX STI

The Subaru WRX Sti is an all-wheel-drive rally car for the streets.

This car has excellent traction and makes any driver feel like they are cornering on rails. In addition, the car’s performance is simply outstanding; it can go from zero to 60 mph in under 4 seconds, swift for a four-door sedan.

The vehicle is very comfortable, making it perfect to drive long distances and still feel fresh when arriving at your destination.

The Subaru WRX STI lives up to its name as a great sleeper car because once people get a look under the hood, they realize that it's much faster than what they could have ever imagined.

I love this car because it gives you all the power you need in an elegant, comfortable package. I recommend this motor to anyone who needs fast cars and excellent fuel economy.

Audi RS2

The Audi RS2 is a fast and elegant set of wheels. It was first released in 1994, but it's still one of the most popular vehicles on the market today.

This car brags an impressive power to weight ratio; for example, it can go from zero to sixty mph in under 3.8 seconds which is very quick considering its 2-door coupe design.

The RS2 also has excellent handling because it weighs less than 4000 pounds, which means you'll take any corner with complete confidence.

This sleeper doesn't look like anything special at first glance; no one will imagine how much speed you're packing until they see your turbocharged engine under the hood!

Nevertheless, I would recommend this vehicle to any individual who wants good performance capabilities that can manoeuvre with dynamic stability.

The Audi RS2 is one of the top sleepers on the market because it looks like a regular coupe but comes with loads of power, all that good stuff.

I love this car because it gives you incredible power in an elegant design; I think this is perfect for anyone who loves value for money.

Mazda speed 6

The Mazda Speed 6 is a fast car with a sleek design.

The exterior of this vehicle looks like it belongs in an office parking lot, but under the hood, you'll find that this can go from zero to 60 mph in less than six seconds which is incredibly quick for such an elegant and stylish sedan.

In addition, I love how well-built this car feels; its parts are solid and sturdy without being bulky or heavy.

One thing that stands out about the Mazda Speed 6 is its interior; there's plenty of legroom and headroom, so you won't feel claustrophobic when driving for long distances.

The best part about this sleeper sedan is that it doesn't look like anything special at first glance; no one will imagine how much power you're packing until they see your turbocharged engine!

I highly recommend this car to anybody wanting a stylish, comfortable interior.

The Mazdaspeed6 is one of the best sleeper sedans on the market because it looks like an ordinary four-door sedan but comes with loads of horsepower. I love it because it gives you powerful performance in a stylish package. This is also great value and made it on to our Cheap sleeper cars list

Audi RS6 Avant

The Audi RS6 Avant is one of the best sleeper cars on the market. When people look at it, it appears to be a family wagon too slow for racing.

But when you see it race on the track, you can't believe that an ugly model like this could be so fast.

The Audi RS6 Avant has 560 horsepower, can reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, and has a breakneck top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h).

It can take on sports cars like the Maserati GranTurismo S and the Porsche Panamera Turbo by hitting top speeds quickly.

So people will think it is a slow family wagon, but you can prove them wrong as this car has enough horsepower to race with other powerful sports cars.

Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The Monte Carlo SS is one of the best buyers choices. It looks like any other boring sedan, but if you look at the engine, you'll notice it has a V8 with 454 horsepower at 6100 RPM and 415 lb-ft of torque at 4800 RPM.

The super high output can achieve a 0–60 in 6 seconds faster than any other sedan. It's also the perfect sleeper since nothing about it stands out until you look at the engine, which looks great.

The Monte Carlo SS has a top speed of 155mph.

The engine is also strong enough for drag racing and would be among the best sleepers in stock car's performance racing. The vehicle isn't much heavier than other sedans, so it doesn't have a ton of extra weight holding it back from going fast.

Mercedes-Benz S600 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz S600 AMG has very few visual modifications to indicate this luxury sedan but has over 600 horsepower.

Many people don't even know exactly what power lies under their hood. In addition to having an impressive engine, this model also comes with a sleek, aerodynamic design to maximize its speed.

The Mercedes-Benz S600 AMG can reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour and get to 60 mph under 4.4 seconds.

However, even though this sedan has such impressive specs, it still comes with all the luxury people have come to expect from their Mercedes cars.

Chevrolet SS

The Chevrolet SS is a compelling and speedy four-door sedan. It is one of the best sleepers available as it looks like an average family station wagon, but it can produce up to 415 horsepower.

The SS has a big V8 engine and can accelerate from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds.

The SS is available as a sedan or an estate and can seat up to five people. It also has comfy leather seats and a very spacious boot, making it the perfect car for families or bringing your friends along with you when going on a fast ride.

The Chevrolet SS is also available with the optional performance exhaust system, which gives even more power and reduces fuel consumption.

This makes it one of the best sleeper cars for young people who like to go fast when the roads are empty but do not want to draw too much attention in their neighborhood or schoolyard.

2019 HONDA ACCORD 2.0T TYPE R

The 2019 Honda Accord 2.0T Type R is a sleeper in every sense of the word. Admittedly, it looks like an average family car, but that's because it also performs like a standard family car.

The fastback coupe packs 325 horsepower and an equal number of pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and front wheels.

The torque band is extremely flat, and the engine makes good power over a broad rev range.

Ford Taurus SHO

A classic sleeper car and a great example of how sleeper cars look slow but are fast, the ford SHO has a 3.5-litre V6 engine with 240 horsepower, which isn't that much compared to others on this list.

However, considering its platform, it's cumbersome and bulky, weighing nearly 4,500 lbs; it's able to do 0-60 in just 5.1 seconds!

The Taurus SHO also has a sleek exterior, so even though this car is a bit old of a model, it's still an excellent buy for a sleeper car.

Many buyers use the Ford Taurus SHO as a daily car because of its comfort, even though it's the perfect sleeper. The SHO also has a great exterior design that turns heads on the road and gets everyone to race you!

1987 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL GNXX

Graceful and powerful, the '87 Buick Grand National GNX is a car that'll turn heads anywhere it goes.

Of course, the muscle car looks like any other piece of dull American metal, but once you pump your foot on the pedal, you'll realize this Grand National means business.

With a turbocharged V6 engine under the hood, designed by the same person who came up with the engine in the Corvette Grand Sport, this vehicle will fly by on the left lane without notice.

It can go from 0 to 60mph in just under 5 seconds.

This Buick is on the list for its looks, sure it's fast, but other cars can beat it.

Ford Fiesta ST

The Ford Fiesta ST is a sleeper car among the most impressive cars on the market.

The Fiesta ST was designed to be accessible for all drivers with its small size and lightweight but looks deceivingly slow. As they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover."

This is because the Ford Fiesta ST has a turbocharged engine that allows it to have a top speed of 130 mph and also can boost from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, making the Ford Fiesta ST one of the best sleeper cars on the market.

In addition, traction control allows the Fiesta ST to remain stable when accelerating, braking, or cornering.

Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO was a car manufactured from 2004-2006. It had a muscular body with fog lights and sleek headlights.

The car's exterior looked like any other mundane looking SUV, but it's the performance that made this car stand out.

Under the hood, there lay two powerful V8 engines: a 5.7 litre and a 6.0-litre engine, both of which help this car achieve speeds up to 150 mph and 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

That makes the Pontiac GTO one of the ultimate sleeper cars on the market, especially during its time.

Mercury marauder

The Mercury Marauder is a car manufactured from 2002-2004. It comes with a fourth-generation 4R70W automatic transmission, and the engine has either 3.55 or 3.73 gears, depending on your preference.

The machine can be lifted to 412 horsepower and 518 pounds of torque, enabling the car to race from 0 to 60 in under 4.9 seconds.

The Mercury Marauder is the definition of a sleeper car. When looking at it, you may think it's average, but it's an entirely different story when you look at the performance.

The vehicle has four forward gears for faster acceleration and lowers drive ratios to give more torque at any speed.

The Mercury Marauder is perfect for those looking for a comfortable vehicle that can press the pedal to the metal whenever desired. Not a car you would want to race at a stoplight.

Conclusion

The Best Sleeper Cars are those that look like they're not fast but can catch unsuspecting drivers off guard.

Best of all, the cars on this list that come with turbochargers or supercharger kits which makes them faster than most people expect.

Whether you have a budget for just one car or want to build your own garage full of sleeper cars for speed enthusiasts and anyone looking to surprise other drivers on the highway, these top sleeper cars should be at the top of your shopping list!
