Twin scroll turbos
We look at the advantages of twin scroll turbos, discuss how they work and how to set them up. People have used twin turbos in the past to address many of the problems you hit with a single turbo and the twin scroll turbo offers a neat drop in upgrade and provides many advantages.
Low ratio sport gearbox setup and selection.
Gearbox – Lower ratios give better acceleration times and lower fuel economy. Six or seven speed boxes are better matched to modern engines.
Most street applications are closer 1st and 2nd gear ratios for that off the line 0-60 boost or for the fast exec a lower 2nd and 3rd ratio give improved overtaking flexibility and 30 – 70 mph acceleration with a high 4th and 5th gear to give motorway fuel economy.
Anti lag systems
We look at Anti lag systems in cars and how these keep the turbo spinning ready to provide boost from low RPM speeds. When you lift off the throttle the engine power cuts and the turbo starts to spool down.
From this low spool state there is a delay while the turbo spins up again before it can provide any useful boost. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of ALS and look at alternative options.
