my leon cupra

i was originally planning selling the leon but after doing an online valuation and looking on autotrader my car has dropped in value by a £1000 within a year :amazed: plus the £3000+ i have spent on it so i have decided im keeping her and going the full hog and making her even better

engine wise i am with the performance at the moment but in the future the next step would be a turbo upgrade but this wont happen for a long time yet

so im going to be looking at spending my money on looks and handling this is what im aiming for on the front i have received the light eyebrows just waiting for the grills to turn up then will decide about the lower splitter then its of to a mate of a mate for colour coding and judging from my mates car the bloke does a good job and all for the price of £200 wich sounds pretty good to me :D

and when i can find the time i will finish my wheels off these are the few changes ive made so far
when i bought them

then changed the inserts and centre cap black

then after putting them on the car realised they were to bling for my liking so changed them again to this body coloured with gloss inserts and matt faces not the best pic but i think you can get the general idea

and then being over fussy their was some orange peel on 2 of the wheels so rubbed them down as gentle as i could did th first 1 perfect but on the 2nd rubbed a bit to far and down to the primer so instead of going through the hassle of all the masking up again i decided just to go for a black gloss finish and this is how they sit in the garage at the minute awaiting a few more coats of lacquer

Keep us posted, I hope you get to the bottom of it.
will do mate!
and me to :amuse:

Good luck with sorting it out. Check all your vac and boost pipes carefully and even with water if you have to, sometime you get splits so tiny they only open up under boost.
tbh mate after missing the big split i had last time i wouldnt rule out another vac pipe its just finding the fecker:mad:
and perhaps the time has come to invest in some more silicone pipes instead of rubber!!!

might be of some help.
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/170257.aspx?PageIndex=1

i think we should already have the updated lower intercooler pipe

well cheers for the link after reading just 2 pages i have 3 possibilities already
1, my dv is reversed:embarrest:
2, i have a split dipstick supposedly it can cause a vac leak:confused:
3, all of my silicone pipes are connected via jubilee clips and may not be strong enough????

have fun then, i only managed about a page and a half

watch with the mikalor clams however they can be clamped up too tight which cuts into the rubber/silicone

well i started my wheels the weekend and i have come across a problem:sad2: basically i filled the curb marks and flatted them down. then tried to mask them up for the paint and the masking tape wont stick to the wheels:mad: i can only put it down to the wheels being to cold and bringing them into the house isnt really an option so i will probably have to wait until the warmer months so i can actually do them:sad2:

It might be the masking tape. It dries out and doesn't stick very well. Fresh masking tape is much better. The stuff on the shelves in various shops could have been standing for months. A car painter friend told me that anyway.

well i tried the tape on stuff in the house and it sticks fine.
so as ive been good recently the mrs said i can bring 1 wheel in at a time just to warm and mask them up:bigsmile:

but my worry is once masked up and put back in the cold will the tape come back off???

I reckon it is more to do with grit/dust than temperature. Give it a go and see what happens.

You have a very understanding wife.

well it was defiantly the cold cause the tape is sticking fine on the wheel i have in the house;)

the wife is generally quite good as long as what im doing doesnt make a mess or get in the way of her or the bab/dog(kids)

the green is done:bigsmile:

im pleased with the result and ive got enough green for some other things;)
im going to leave them for a couple of weeks to cure then do the faces
but this gives me time to make the wheel nut covers

cheers waynne!!

ok for the last week or so ive had the eml light on and the same fault codes as usual
17705, 17545 but this time i could smell fuel in the car so i had chance to look today and found another split pipe:sad2: directly bellow the 1 i replaced a couple of months ago

so i did a temporary bodge reset the fault codes and all seemed well no smell of fuel anymore:bigsmile: so i took it for a drive and i have no power (limp mode:mad:) so i ran the diagnostic and no fault codes so i switched the gauge to boost pressure and im only boosting 6 psi peak (usually 24 psi peak)

could anyone shed any light on what could be causing this cause i checked everything i can think of and all seems fine:mad:

I'd have to say a boost or vacuum pipe somewhere. Can you easily remove the air filter pipe at the turbo?

its a bit awkward but yes i could

but this is the thing i dont get mate the car was running alright power wise it just had a horrible petrol smell!
then i put some heat shrink and insulation tape around the split pipe reset the fault codes. and then i have no power (i didnt touch anything else!)

Tis a strange one. But if you take the pipe off and turn the fins of the turbo to see it they move freely. When my ti lost power it was the dreaded Turbo failure. Although on your occasion i'd have to say I think it's either a boost or vacuum prob.

Hmmm I'd say fix the pipe properly and go from there. How does the car drive and idle? Could be a boost leak or maybe even a dodgy boost controller? Wouldn't say vac leak as it doesn't normally affect the boost but you never know with these overly-complex VAG engines.

the car is idleing fine and driving ok just not boosting properly i will take the temp bodge of and redo it (cause i cant replace the pipe just yet) and go from there

cheers for the input lads hopefully this will sort it:blink:

right i messed about with the pipes today and still no luck its still only boosting 6 psi. so i bit the bullet and took it to the local vag specialist and within 5 minuets he tells me my n75 valve is dead:confused: at which point i tell him it cant be cause the liquid gauge i have shows it is working! to which his reply was i am 90% sure it will be the n75. and knowing he knows his vw/vag engines i decided to trust him and order 1 via them £50 inc vat which is cheaper than i payed for the last 1 £65 iirc

and if it turns out he is correct the liquid gauge people will be told about this

wouldnt say its turbo faliure as 5-6psi is limp the 1st limp mode.
isnt there a test for the n75 valve ? have heard that the J valves can cause issues but youve ran yours for a while - still need to go to audi at some point and order up mine.
check under the inlet manifold as well as i think theres a couple vac lies uder there that are prone to bursting

How much do think chasing this fault has aged you Herb?:cheesy:
it hasent aged me but i do feel like im doing this constantly

i think i read you can test the n75 with logs via vagcom.
i have read about people having problems with the j variant but its supposed to work better with mapped cars.
the vac lines under the inlet will be replaced with silicone when i do the catch tank like in the other thread;)

well with being at work today the father in-law kindly picked up my new n75j and payed for it even though i had already paid for it
doh.gif
so when i got home i went to install it and its the wrong 1:sad2: they sent me this 026906283j

where as mine is a 034906283j

its my fault really i should have got the part number for the receptionist cause i just asked for a n75j valve and thats what she ordered.
so the father in-law is going back tomorrow to get his money back and reorder the part for me. he is going first thing so hopefully they will get it in for me the same day

to right ma!!

but
BigSmile.jpg

i have boost again
funky.gif
it turns out steve the head technician was right
bowdown.gif
i will have to email the liquid gauge people about this fault cause with that telling me its working i didnt even consider it wasnt until steve
bowdown.gif
was almost sure

but i didnt manage to get an j valve cause they where on back order so i had to have the standard f and tbh i cant tell any difference! not sure if this is because i havent had boost for a while
shrug.gif

Congratulations are in order. What sort of power do you reckon you're running now then?

the power is probably the same as before the n75 went around the 215-220bhp & 235-245lb/ft torque (according to the liquid gauge) but hopefully when i find all the leaks:lol: and fix them it will be closer to the figures of when it was mapped

Lets go electro! One of my favourite cars on the forum but no update in aaaages. Pull your finger out Herby :toung:

cheers ma!
funny you should bump this up cause there will be an update on the wheels sunday:toung: and if i get time the sub and amp will be coming out 2:bigsmile:

as promised an update on a wheel:toung: small progress but still progress:bigsmile:

i thought of many ways of making wheel nut covers to make the wheels flush
but in the end i decided on some pvc tubing cut to shape
DSC00021.jpg

then inserted into the holes and filled with p40
DSC00022.jpg

then removed and sanded
DSC00025.jpg

then put back in and a first coat of p38
DSC00031.jpg

then sanded down
DSC00032.jpg

then a 2nd coat of p38 and flatted
DSC00037.jpg

all nice and flush now but when the primer goes on they will need some filling putty!
im quite chuffed seeing as though i only got a few hours free today but still 3 more to do:sad2:
i also started masking the center caps what a pain in the arse this is:mad:
