But it's not always about peak output, often the space under the curve is the important part.
The Mighty Car Mod boys recently built a Nissan Fairlady with an RB32 engine. Should achieve 350kw, iirc, (about 470bhp). But when they took to the track vs Super Gramps (their Subaru wagon running about 250kw/335bhp, the "slower" car was the star of the day.

Remember - it's not about total power, it's about how quickly you can put that power down to the tyres and road.
