A friends car broke down. Couldn't see anything wrong with it exept for no fuel delivery at the engine.

Suspected the fuel pump and injectors but after a bit of digging around he worked out that the fuel gauge was wrong and was over reading by 1/4 of a tank!

How many times have you replaced stuff on your car only to find that the problem was really obvious?

Only time I can remember was over 20 years ago when I kept having alternator issues. After going back to the factors with blown #4 I started to look elsewhere for a problem. The loom around the sump had been damaged, you couldn't see it as the dirty sump was disguising it. The wiring had been shorting out and blowing the alternator. I neglected to inform the motor factors this........................oops!

I've seen people trying to jump start a car which is turning over perfectly well under it's own steam. Clearly if the engine is turning then the fault is not caused by low battery charge.

 Diesel owners always know their engines are running;)
