We should limit this thread to those who have had induction kits fitted. Please answer the following point as helpfully and as objectively as you can.

1) Which brand and model of induction kit did you fit, and to which car (engine size is important here)?
2) How do you rate the noise?
3) How was the power gain?
4) Were there any drawbacks or problems with it?
5) How many miles/months has it been on the car?
6) Would you recmmend this?

1) Universal cone filter fitted to end of standard induction hose. '97 1.4 civic
2) noise was nice at the time (grew up since then )
3) felt more powerful but couldnt feel any difference when swapped back to airbox :(
4) mounting bracket was a waste of time. kit came with plenty of adaptors that were thrown in the bin as not needed would have proberly been a real "universal" kit.
5) on around 3 years ~40k miles
6) recommend on the noise but that would be it

1) Universal cone filter (Urban I think) to a Renault Clio 1.2 8v
2) Makes a lovely growl sound when on hard throttle, surprises many people as to what engine the car has. Many people think it is a much classier car about to go past till they see mine ;). (Apparently the sound on an 8v is much nicer/deeper than a 16v?)
3) Powerband is higher up the rev range now (can't tell you the rev range because I don't have a rev counter ;) )
4) Makes me want to use more fuel when I fancy hearing the sound of it ;)
5) Been on for 1 year now ~ 20k miles
6) I would certainly recommend it. I have got a cheap filter and haven't actually got the hoses all linked up so that it draws lots of cold air, only a little duct for some cold air. Seems to give my car some sort of edge over similar engine sized cars when at the lights sometimes :)

1) Blitz Sonic model, to an Impreza, 2.0 Turbo
2) not really much noise, just a whoosh at above 3k revs
3) feels about zero gain
4) price, over 300 quid
5) 8 months
6) only if already serious engine mods done, any induction kit on a Scooby not required until serious power ranges.

1. Made (built) my own intake fitted to suzuki sx4 2ltr
2.has nice throaty sound on acceleration
3.has small increase in power
4.approx 3mpg increase in fuel consumtion
5.have had it on for over 1 year

1) BMC CDA, Punto Mk2 1.2 8v
2) Very nice sound only loud above 4k rpm.
3) Noticably lost torque low down but pulled harder higher up.
4) Slight consumption increase.
5) About 30k.
6) YES!

1)K&N, Punto GT 1.4T
2) Horrible.
3) Never driven a GT with a standard airbox so I don't know!
4) It looked crap, sounded crap, was to small for the car imo.
5) About 2.5k.
6) NO!

1) Pipercross Foam filter, Punto GT 1.4T
2) Lovely deep throaty sound, not too loud.
3) Definately felt less restricted right through the rev range compared to above. Freer revving especially on boost.
4) None.
5) About 500 miles lol.
6) YES!

1)green filter forced air onto peugeot 106 gti 1.6 16v
2)awsome
3)no noticable power gain, just quicker throttle responce, iv'e found induction kits alone don't realy do that much
4)nope
5)3 months but replaced 8 month old KnN
6)yes but only with re mapping to higher air, fuel ratio

1) Cheap 'Max Power' Universal Cone to Pug 307 1.6 16v
2) Only a slight noise, nothing impressive
3) Didnt notice anything
4) No problems
5) 3 months
6) only if you have no money lol

1) Simota forced air induction kit to Pug 307 1.6 16v
2) Sweet! Nice n deep
3) Good for just an induction kit, more pull throu the whole range
4) Nothing at all
5) 18 months
6) Yes!

1) Universal Cone filter with tin foil made ducting
2) Good, I liked it (I havn't grown up yet)
3) Marginal but noticable when I went back to std airbox
4) Yes, tin foil ripped many many times, pain in the bum!
5) 4 months / around 6k miles
6) Hell no, spend the extra money and buy a proper kit. Thought I was being clever lol.

*Car is a mk5 fiesta 1.25 16v

1) K&N 57i to a BMW 318is coupe.
2) On the BM the noise was annoying!
3) Seem to go better, worked proper sweet in the colder months.
4) Nope the kit was spot on and really easy to fit.
5) 6 months and 9000 miles(then I popped the engine).
6) Yes definately.

1) K&n 57i to an A3 1.6.
2) Don't notice it, I made a heat shield to stop the worse of the engine temp getting to it. Guess it blocks the noise to.
3) Before fitting it felt like a bit flat changing gears but afterwards it has perked up quite a bit and seems to rev more freely.
4) I sliced my hand open whilst making the heat shield! Apart from that the kit was spot on.
5) 2 weeks and 250 miles.
6) HELL YEAH!!

1)blitz sus on celica vvti 1.8 190bhp
2)over 6000rpm was amazing
3) no power gains but felt more responsive
4)no at all
5)6months
6)yes

1)aem v2 cold air intake on rx8 192
2)yes through out the whole 9000rpm sounded like a f1 car
3)felt quicker at higher revs and more responsive through out
4)took 3 hours to fit cost £275 went through puddle and it sucked up water blew my engine
5)6months
6)yes definetly

Engine is overbored forged RB26DETT ( twin turbo ) circa 600bhp

Twin filter pods from 80mm HKS racing suction kit .
Custom alloy elbows to balanced greddy induction system.
No afms as HKS ECU is given readings by map sensor.
Custom cold box ( made by yours truly) from carbon sheet with gold relective heat sheild to engine side.
Filters are force fed cold air through vent in Nismo front . This is linked by custom sealed ducting direct to cold box.

Costs
greddy induction (used ) £ 400
HKS pods (new) £210
Cold box
Labour nil
Carbon sheet £44
Gold heat reflective sheet £65
Map sensor nil as came with HKS Fcon V pro gold ECU

Performance wise the induction is supposed to provide extra mid range torque but as it was fitted with the forged engine I cant say how effective it is on its own,

It is relatively quiet as it is a sealed system and the engine bay is sound proofed. Closing the bonnet seals the cold box using door seals from a spare stagea .

Had the induction system for about 3 years.
Fitted the cold box in August (ish)

Cold box must help as most tuned RB26s run very hot under the bonnett and there is aj obvious difference in temperature when the bonnett is lifted.
