What are the common faults on your car model and do you (or have you) suffered from them?

Have suffered....
My thermostat went - pretty typical.
Notchy first and second gear - apparently quite common and something I do experience but if I leave it parked in 1st gear it is ok.

Thankfully have not suffered....
Oil sludge and water pump failure are typical but I've not suffered from either.

Coolant Temp sensor - not yet
MAF - nope
Brake Light switch - nope
DV - nope
Water pump - OHHH Yes and not cheap to fix
Pollen Filter - nope
Oil sludging - nope
Oil dipstick braking off - nope

properly hundreds more

coil packs - not yet just a matter of time though
bocsh dv diaphram splitting after a remap - i swapped mine before it had chance
oil dipstick breaking - yes and its been like that for a year :embarrest:
maf - yes
door seals getting clogged/deteriorating - yes and soaking wet carpets :(
pollen filter leak - nope i sealed it when i did the doors and again when i did the amp
leak form where the bonnet release goes through the bulk head - no
bonnet release catch snapping of - yes it came of in my hand and on closer inspection found that the garage must have broke it and tried to melt it back together  but they replaced it when i took it back
pirelli p6000 tyres - yes the car came with them but soon changed them

thats all i can think of at the min but there are more:(

tyres - were the p6000 not stanard then ;)
forgot the coil packs new there was loads more.

door sear on the driver door is looking a bit worse for wear but not leaking. might change it before winter

WoW I overlooked loads of VAG faults there. Thankfully I've been lucky.

If you look after the car then it looks after you.

other ones missed include
oil cooler
N75 valve
Fuel pump relay
Air intake Temp - allways thought this part of the MAP but supposedly its in the intake manifold
Secondary air pump
N249 valve - post 2000 engines
and of course boost leak through the millions and millions of vac lines
