so my mrs let her battery run down in her key fob on a rover 200 and we replaced the battery and it wont work? have been told that it needs taking to a main dealer to be reset surely not?

Try putting the key in the ignition and switch it on, then press the door open on the key fob then press door locked on the key fob. Switch off the ignition remove the key fob and close the door then try to lock the door with the fob and see if that works.

Is the battery in the right way round! :p (sorry, I jest)

If that was the case the moment you take the battery out it won't work & I know thats not true because I've changed the batteries in three of my rover fobs. :amuse:

Give the contacts a clean try the battery in again. :)

Might be, I've just took the battery out mine for the MG, left it out for a few minutes & put it back in & it works fine. Could it be a duff cell? Have you got another fob for the car to try?

There's only one person I know personally who could help you & that's Dudley from Talon Sports Cars, he's got the kit to reprogramme fobs & he will probably have one in stock somewhere. He's a good honest chap & if he can help you he will. :D

Failing that, there's a few people on the rover forums who specialise in this, send a PM to Stamford (he runs an MGZS forum) he'll should be able to point you in the right direction. :D
