What are your thoughts on parents who buy cars for their children?

Perhaps you were lucky enough to have this done to you.

I had to make my own way in the car world and started off small and naff and worked my way up. I think this has made me appreciate cars and the cost of them more but I don't think I treated the car any differently to if my parents had bought it for me.

Does the really flash cars given to youngsters wind you up or is it something you don't mind seeing?

Did you parents buy or help you buy your first car?

i have to agree with you waynne , when the costs are out of your own pocket you tend to have a greater care factor than when is all free .

i wasnt spoiled by my parents btu they did put half towards my first on the road car and and i really appreciated it if they hadnt it would have taken me months to save up for 1 on my £50 a week apprentice wage

but on the other side of this. a lad i was recently working with. when he passed his test his mother gave him her 2002 corsa c. and within a month the clutch went and i asked him how he was going to afford a new clutch on his wages. and his reply was well it aint my fault so my mum is going to have to pay for it. (i later find out how horrible this lad is to his parents and you lot probably wont believe what he has said and done to his family )
but anyway his parents got the car repaired for him and then he tells me hes getting a new corsa c an sxi this time. and i asked him why and how will he afford it. and his reply was i dont like the 1 ive got now so i told my parents i want a different 1. and they got it for him along with 2k's worth of ice, new alloys £700, and a few sri body bits and the £2,000+ insurance bill.
i dont like it when undeserving people like this lad get spoiled but in reality its down to his parents who have made him like this :sad2:

I have three daughters, the first one I bought a Mini 25 on the understanding it stayed in the family. However she couldn't take to it so I sold it against my wishes and bought her a pug 106. It is hers and she runs it, insures it, taxes it and MOTs it, I service it. Daughter number two was given my old Xsara, again she MOTs it, taxes it and I insure it until she has a fulltime job then it is hers to look after, again I service it. Daughter number three has an AX waiting for her for when she is old enough. I'll set her up and she'll take it on when she has a job etc. This way they have their own wheels and when fulltime they take full control of all finances.

The eldest girl's pug is off the road as the MOT ran out and she can't be bothered to pay for the parts to service it, so I told her I won't be helping to MOT it until she looks after it. She is a lazy SOB! Today will be her first bus ride for while!

Once they are on their own it is theirs to do as they wish, if they want another car they are to buy it and look after it. I will only advise on the purchase and make sure whatever they are looking at is sensible and not a ringer.

Those that get spoilt do not deserve it and therefore do not appreciate it. They need to be taught values. My first car was bought using a bankloan and help from a family friend when buying as my parents have never driven.

it this that really annoys me, its bad enough that the parents bought the car and insured it etc for him but for him say he no longer wants it and wants a new one and for them to be so bloody stupid to buy it for him.

i had to pay for all my lessons apart from 5 that i got for my 17th birthday.
pay for all my tests.
paid for my 1st car, mot and tax.
mum did get me the insurance for the 1st year when she seen how bad it was for me. but i was warned that it would only be the 1st year. i also paid this from my account. since then ive paid for everything. if i wanted/needed something and couldnt afford it it was a case of overtime whenever i could to raise the cash

was going to say i had to buy my first car but i got my first 2 free one was a mate of a mate s car that just sat on his drive so i took that a little mk2 fiesta had that 3 months then i had a escort for sale at work and p/x ed a mk3 cavalier sri for it so i put a new engine in that and drove that
but ever car after that i have bought bar one i swaped a few mots for a vw van went in my favor as i dont pay for my tests lol

and was lucky my boss payed for all my lessons so i would get driving quicker as he did not pay me much and still look after it 7 years later not one point (god knows how lol)
