Need urgent advice for adding turbo in my non turbo diesel Mitsubishi lancer

The most sensible option in my opinion is to transplant a turbo charged engine in rather than fitting a turbo to a NA engine.

But the whole set up is still far from simple. And with a diesel you'll have pre-det issues.

Diesels are very different beasts to petrol engines and there are lots of things to take into account when adding forced induction. The Compression ratios are much higher to start with and then with a turbo you need a ridiculous amount of fuel pressure.

Since the late 1980s very few cars have been offered with naturally aspirated diesel engines.

Mercedes Benz used to do an E300 D until quite late 1990s and VAG offered an SDi unit until around the same time.

There were Rover Montego and Maestro models tooled up with a Perkins DI non turbo unit. Horrid to drive and unbearably noisy.

Our old Ibiza was a 1996 1.9D indirect injection unit but apart from the usual old-school diesel sound it actually went reasonably well despite a miserly 64bhp (!).
