Would you ever lend your car to a mate? Under what circumstances would you do this?

Have you ever lent a car to a friend to have it returned in a less than desirable condition?

I can think of only 4 people that I would lend my car too, they all work at the garage who built the Beast and would treat it like it was their own. ;)

I am slightly wary - I don't have a million mates anyway, and those I do have are pretty sound drivers.

I don't mind my cars being driven hard (I am not known for my light right foot), I just prefer people apply my approach, ie warm up before working it hard, don't ding the sidewalls on kerbs and let it cool off a minute or so before shutting down. Anyone happy to follow these requests is more than at liberty to drive my cars.

Thing is I've never owned anything remotely special - no one's been queueing up to take the keys to any of my cars anyway.

I see where your coming from Paul, but notice the only one's allowed to drive my car are the garage personnel ;) Would not entertain any of my friends or mates driving my baby. One chap at the SAAB dealership once was pre-warned that the car was a bit urgent on the throttle and not like ordinary SAAB cars. He then decides to give it a tap on the throttle while taking it down a ramp to the MOT section and promptly kerbs one of my wheels
The dealership knowing what I am like, summoned a wheel repair specialist on an urgent call and had him repair it before they called me to collect the car. Give them their due though, they told me what happened rather than the possibility of me discovering it.

I see your point too. Automatic transmission can screw with lots of people even in modestly powered cars. They seem to require that clutch pedal to feel in control. You and I, amongst many, are very capable of driving manual cars - we have very good clutch control (as if it's difficult). But high powered autos require delicacy with the accelerator. It's called acceleration sense. OR common sense. Or not being dumb stupid. Anything with 600+ bhp is going to take of pretty smartly!!

If it was my car with a dinged alloy, or sidewall they'd have been summoning an ambulance too ;)

But no one's going to be wishing and wanting to drive anything I've owned.

depends on which car, the daily hack is the one to get dings and scratches so yeah anyone can but the toy.... well, lets just say the mrs isn't allowed to sit behind the wheel unless i have the keys so i don't like anyone else's chances ;)
