saab 9-3 2.0t 2003
hi all
i'm a newbie here and noticed that i am driving less km with each passing day.
now from full tank to the first 'R' i get only 320-340km out from my saab.
is this normal? if not what should i do?
would be helpful if you could share how many km from full tank to the first 'r"/

of course i could send my car to a mechanic and have him examined but i don't want to be fleeced without getting some advice here. eg what should i look out for?

also would tuning help in fuel consumption of the car? does after-tuning create alot of rev-up noise for Saab? 1 thing i love about this car is that acceleration is smooth and quiet, would tuning turn it into a roaring machine?

hope to get all the answers, thanks!

No that is not normal! I assume you have checked for the obvious, strong smell of fuel near the car, leaking fuel tank, fuel hoses and filter? when was the last time that the car was serviced and I mean properly serviced?
Is the air filter clean? are the spark plugs pitted?
I have a 9-3 Aero 2003 myself which is heavily modified. Tuning options are a good remap which can be tailored to your driving style. A good tuner will be able to do you a custom map to take into account the things that matter to you the most i.e. fuel economy and smooth yet purposeful accelaration. As your across the pond i'm unable to help you with a local recommendation. An independant garage should be able to help you with the problem although a Saab specialist be they main dealer or an indie, would be much more familiar with the Saabs known funny little ways!

Good luck and let me know how you get on! ;)

Hi T9 thanks for the reply. What km/miles can your Saab do? It would b useful to know how abnormal my Saab is now. Yes I do smell some faint smell of petrol sometimes. I just went for servicing 3 mth's ago:( and the serviceman told me a Saab doing 350km is normal for city driving.

I do a little better than that now liveartz, and most of my driving is in the city too! Unfortunately as to a true fuel consumption figure for you to use as a comparison? my car has not been standard for nearly 2 years now! Standard horses from the factory for the 9-3 Aero is 210BHP and mine currently runs at 321BHP after the current mods! parts list is too extensive to write down here, but if you look in my Gallery under my profile you will see some photos of the Beast! and this will give you some idea of the work that has gone into it.

If I can be of any more assistance please let me know!

First up check your tyre pressures and wheel bearings. These can really such up fuel.

What fuel are you using? This has a big bearing on the mileage you get from a tank as well.

Hopefully it is nothing serious but I'm sure we can help you track it down.
