We never know when we are going to breakdown and a few simple tools in the car will often mean we can get the car going again. You certainly don't want to be carrying a full set of tools so we have thrown out all the non essential and come up with a list of the most useful tools and repair items to carry in your car.

Title is wrong. Tools won't prevent a breakdown, only repair it

What can actually be done to cars that break down these days?

I've spent over £2500 on it since I got it in April 2014. That's more than I spent on the Primera, Peugeot and BMW all together across 12 years and nearly 300,000 miles. I've only done about 20,000 in the VW !!!!

And it still has outstanding faults

A diagnostic machine of some sort is a very useful tool! Also a Internet enabled phone so you can look up the fault codes

They have one. mother nature and and a drive up Brecon beacons !!

Then at least you can tell the AA/RAC/Green Flag to just send the recovery vehicle
