Difference between these mufflers?

Hello, I am not very familiar with modding and to start off I wanted to change the on my car (not the whole system, just a muffler), but there are two types of mufflers I see when I am looking online, what is the difference between these two? and one more question, if a car has a dual exhaust system (one on each side), would you need two mufflers?
Any help is appreciated, I just made an account here because I have not been able to find an answer for this question.
