    Gear ratios

There's also this site which is pretty useful: http://wheels.corinthian.se/ I used it when I decided to go from 235 to 265 but still wanted to maintain the same rolling diameter.

    2010 Ford Focus RS mkII

Cheers for the comments, guys. JWR's own development car is currently here in Sweden at Autotech HQ in Trollhättan. It will have somewhere between 500-550 bhp when it's all done over the winter. Below is a recent dyno of Autotech's own development car. The dyno sheet is showing wheel power...

    2010 Ford Focus RS mkII

One of the best performing RS on track is probably the Raeder Motorsports Ford Focus RS (363 hp, 1441 kg, semi-slicks + new suspension, diff and other stuff). It has lapped the Ring in 7.58 It's most certainly decent company that surrounds it.

Dyno sheet Dyno sheet (yellow is torque; red is power) The next power step will be 420 bhp and even though others are already at 450 bhp with standard internals, I will stop at 420 bhp until I can afford pistons, con rods, etc.

    2010 Ford Focus RS mkII

During development of the RS, Ford had actually built an AWD prototype but it was slower around the Ring and the added weight also meant slower straight-line performance, of course. This, combined with the added cost no doubt, swayed them towards a FWD setup instead, and with the introduction of...

Fair enough. Pictures, youtube videos and specs of my car is here: http://www.torquecars.com/forums/f90/focus-owners-say-hello-2280/index2.html#post185940

    Torque vs power

But you're still glad I explained it all in great detail, aren't you. 8-) Okay, so "crap" was a strong word. Let's just say "suboptimal" (in the eyes of the performance enthusiast). It is the degree to which a torque curve drops off that matters. You need to go back and reread by posts where...

    Torque vs power

A few comments and how to interpret my data: Let's start out by looking at 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear. From this it's pretty clear that tranny output torque at redline is always higher in a lower gear than the next one (at any given RPM). Hence, run it to redline for maximum acceleration. Moving on...

    Torque vs power

The above spreadsheet which I've created can be downloaded from http://sentinel.dk/tranny-output-torque-calculator.xls (or http://sentinel.dk/tranny-output-torque-calculator.ods if using OpenOffice). All you have to do is type in the gear ratios of your car (I have left out the final drive...

    Torque vs power

Transmission output torque delivery with a proper map (factory map for my old Opel Corsa OPC): It should be clear to everybody where the optimal shift points are (namely at redline). And here's a rather poorly remapped Grande Punto Abarth with a tune which unfortunately isn't designed...

    Torque vs power

Of course, they will always cross at 5252 as per the math equation that they are both part of, but you're just not getting it. You are confusing yourself. Take power out of the picture for a minute and I'll explain to you how it all works and why I say you should always hunt your redline in...

    Torque vs power

Of course, torque is torque! When I say low-end torque I'm naturally referring to the engine's torque output in the lower end of the engine's rev range.

    Torque vs power

Well, I'm not gonna vote as the poll really doesn't make sense as torque and power are bound together by the same math formula. Power is simply a product of torque and revs. Never try to separate them. Just to make it clear to everybody: If you gain torque at a specific rpm, you gain hp at that...

Reasons why I will never buy a new car.

I'm a "cup is half empty" kind of guy  so personally, I will probably never buy a used performance car as I will want it to have been truly cared for since day 1 and not trashed on a stone-cold engine every other day. I bought my Focus RS mkII for this exact reason and I even did a 750...

    Just saying hi :)

True, but I'm already at 400 bhp (the "easy" and fairly cheap tuning, so to say) and I can still play it safe with stock internals even with an additional 40 bhp. However, going above that point is gonna cost quite a bit which is also why I'm dividing the costs across a couple of years...

    Just saying hi :)

Future plans include: 2011: BC Racing BR coilovers (already have them; needs fitting), Sitech inlet plenum & fuel pump. Inlet+pump provides an additional 15-20 bhp together with my current setup. 2012: Brakes + engine internals. I don't have all the details from my tuner yet, but at least...

    Focus owners - say hello!

D'oh! I think I've done it again. :embarrest:  I posted a new thread in the "Say hello..." sub forum but I included a link to this thread. :blink1:

    Just saying hi :)

Hi I've just signed up on this forum. Discovered the forum via a Google search on "flywheel lightening" which lead to me to this article. Browsed through some of the other well-written articles as well and thus decided to join the forum. I live in Sweden with my wife and two small kids. We are...
