Is the 2l direct injection turbo engine better than the 1.8t it replaces ?

The title is not entirely accurate, what i was meant to ask was; is the 2l turbo (in the current golf gti) as tuner friendly and robust as the 1.8t was in the mk4 gti ? i mean, it has direct injection which is great for turboing so it should be pretty tuner friendly too ? the 1.8 was known to...

    really confused with turbo charging..

i was reading a book called 'Maximum Boost' by corky bell.. in it, it mentions how in theory, 1 bar of boost (14.7psi) the horsepower figures should double since theres 2 atm pressure.. fair.. one car that seems to defy this is the mazda rx7.. in stock form, it makes 220 rwhp (at 0.62 bar)...

    japanese drifting dinosaurs.. (rx7/s15)

i was watching some japanese motor show and there were tuners that had set up their almost stock cars into drift/time attack cars .. meaning they only drifted when pushed hard but they were fully controlled drifts.. the only mods they did were adjustable coilovers, lsd, engine boost was...

    silvia s15 question...

the s15 spec R is pretty expensive to import because that's the model that people want and is in demand... what about the non-turbo spec S ?? how much would a spec S cost to import ?? .. what is the difference between the spec S and spec R apart from the cosmetics and the lack of turbo ?

    japanese drifting dinosaurs.. (rx7/s15)

what is it about these cars that make them such ideal drift cars ? especially the s15.. i dont think i've ever seen one NOT drifting... i saw one parked and even that was parked at an angle with opposite lock. lol..

MX-5 NC v S2000, which is the better tuning project base ??

i know its not as simple as "what handles best so I ll use that and stick 300hp through it"... and you are right about being able to tweak the chassis, but i dont plan to do too many major tweaks, only tweaks that you change back etc.. and no, i dont have the money to go overboard... i read...

MX-5 NC v S2000, which is the better tuning project base ??

power is not an issue because i plan to do an engine swap... suspension, brakes are all gunna be replaced... i just want to know what's a good base, which has the most potential.. which can handle 300+ hp better than other, and which can grip better than the other at the edge...

MX-5 NC v S2000, which is the better tuning project base ??

i want to start a tuning project, but i am having trouble choosing between these 2, i want to know which has the best base, eg chassis, suspension layout etc, things that you can't just get from the aftermarket... the mx5 is lighter, has a more modern, stronger chassis/suspension, its cheaper...

low rpm turbo = better fuel economy ??

this is all true, but even though the integra weighs soo much less than the gti, smaller frontal area (which = less drag/aerodynamics) still drinks more. the tyres are grippier on the ITR so that means worse mpg. but then again, do gear ratios and/or tyres make that much of a difference ? btw...

why is a bigger stroke better than bigger bore at low rpm ??

why would an engine with a bigger stroke be better than an engine with a bigger bore at low rpm ?? take for example, two 2 litre engines. one has longer stroke than bore, whereas the other has a bigger bore than stroke. shouldn't low rpm performance be the same for both as 2 litres of...

low rpm turbo = better fuel economy ??

Golf gti 1.8t 20v (180) averages 35mpg honda integra type R 1.8 vtec averages 31mpg the golf is a turbo, if a low rpm turbo was fitted onto the integra, would the fuel consumption increase ?? or would you need to make the gears longer ?? but then again, it is also said that fuel economy is...

    300 mph

despite all the effort, the aerodynamics of the bugatti veyron are far from good, the frontal area is way to big too. The bugatti veyron would need 1433 whp to get to 300 mph. whereas something more aerodynamic, like the 2002 nsx, would only need 1025 whp. the mclaren f1 would need 1003 whp. get...

Advantages of increase engine stroke apart from ...?

.. increasing the torque all over the revs, by increasing displacement (increasing bore does that too though) ?? are there any other advantages ?? it also lowers the safe max rpm, which is a disadvantage... are there any advantages over increasing the bore size instead ?? i've read through...
