What do you think should be included within the driving test or at least subject to a basic training certificate? Here are some of my suggestions.

  • Motorway driving
  • Night driving
  • Changing a wheel
  • Basic First aid instruction
A visit to a "serious accident exhibition" and attendance of a road safety conference or speed awareness course.

Do you think this would make our roads a little safer and filter out the incapable drivers.

Do any countries have these parts already? Do you have these skills yourself?

Basic car maintanance would be good. Checking fluid levels, tyre pressures etc...

Here's my 2 cents worth ;)
ALL drivers regardless of sex should know the basics of their car and be able to demonstrate the following,
1 how to check and top up all fluids.
2 Inflate tyres to correct pressures and realize that it should be done with the tyres cold.
3 change a wheel with exemptions for people with a disability.
4 How to check all lights and replace a bulb.
5 how to sit behind and turn the steering wheel correctly.
6 how and why they should tighten the seat belt and not just rely on the mechanism especially when rugged up in your winter woolies.
7 do a commentary drive.
8 Perform an emergency lane change at a driver training facility.
9 Emergency/panic braking with ABS activated.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
10 Experience some loss of control an a skid pan.

Why is it that so many waiting at the lights creep forward and end up way over the wide white stop line and at times pedestrians have to dodge around them
