    Swirl removal

Thanks. I am advised that a DA polisher is the best way to retrieve the situation, so, since it's a relatively small area and I don't have a DA, a pro detailer will do the job.

    Swirl removal

I am attempting to remove light swirls and slight orange peel on the bonnet of the red Focus by wet sanding with 3000 and 5000 grade. This leaves a dull finish on the clear coat. Meguiars Ultimate pre-wax polish followed by a wax polish fails to achieve a mirror finish; the dullness still shows...

    Octane rating

Unlikely! It does seem to perform better nevertheless.

    Tyre pressure checks

I did add; correct me if wrong! I agree there is no info on the tyre placard. http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyres/tyre-pressure-in-the-summer

    Tyre pressure checks

So what is cold? Measuring tyre pressure today in 32 degrees of heat produces pressures well above recommended. As I understand it, pressures should be correct at ambient 20 degrees. Correct me if wrong!

    Air filter upgrade

I have upgraded the air filter in the Focus 1.0 Ecoboost to the K&N E2993. Next step would be the 57S-400 kit but at £160 is a bit pricey. However, the filter used in the kit has a detachable disc and this filter is available separately and would presumably fit in the original box. I wondered...

    Octane rating

I have always used BP higher rated petrol in the Focus Ecoboost despite its being about 10p dearer than 95, being reluctant to use supermarket versions. Petrolhead grandson suggested I might try the Tesco 99 octane, currently priced at 117p. This seemed to work wonders and the Focus shot off...

Bad driving ! What are your pet hates on the road ?

People who stay in the fast lane or the overtaking lane for ever and refuse to move over. Geoff5050, you can bawl me out for being pedantic but there is no such thing as a fast lane.

Bad driving ! What are your pet hates on the road ?

Drivers who seem to forget they have a handbrake; foot firmly on pedal at lights and traffic queues dazzling those behind. Drivers who switch on front/rear fog lights when visibility is down to two miles.

    Engine ecu tuning

I used this system on a Focus 1.0 Ecoboost to great effect. Technical advice was freely given by friendly people. The big advantage of Bluefin is that the handset stores both original and new settings so you can reverse if necessary, and any number of times. It transformed my Focus and I...

    Are you a good parker

Must admit I'm not so good at parallel parking and, like others, am scared of rubbing the kerb. The width and length of the Focus seem to vary depending on some unknown factor! Don't like the narrow bays in supermarket car parks so park as far away from store as possible and nowhere near...

How would you rate your driving skills?

More about anticipation... In 1989/90 I was driving regularly from Leicestershire to Ramsgate, usually starting at 0900 on Monday morning. A challenge; how far was it possible to drive from J22 on the M1 and on to the M25 without applying brakes and at motorway speed? On one occasion, I...

How would you rate your driving skills?

I agree that anticipation and being aware of the situation ahead are vital. As a 75 year old driver, I find driving, especially on the motorway, incredibly tiring due to the constant concentration, watching 3 mirrors and trying to predict what others will do. Those who say motorway driving is...

    Corner cutting madness

I've just waited for a driver to pass a line of parked cars where theoretically the right of way is mine. A wave of acknowledgment would be courteous but courtesy like that is becoming rarer. The concept of right of way is unknown to most drivers.

Have sat navs killed drivers navigation skills

It depends; if you have a navigator to call from a map, fine, you can concentrate on driving. If driving solo, the roads are so crowded with traffic and an overload of signage that a satnav is essential.

    Ford Focus (Eco)boost

By sheer chance this morning picked up the April edition of Fast Ford and surprise, surprise there is an article on tuning the 1.0 Ecoboost, although the featured car is a Fiesta. They really went for it:- remap, intercooler, induction kit with fancy colour silicon hoses and sports CAT, over...

    Ford Focus (Eco)boost

I am the proud owner of a Focus 1.0 Ecoboost, Ford's version of a turbocharged 3 cylinder moped engine and feel a bit inferior on here seeing the cars you drive. Having said that, I love the car and, as an apprentice geriatric (75) it's fun to drive. I have remapped using a hand-held device (not...

    Motorway etiquette

There was a suggestion recently that learner drivers should receive tuition on motorways before taking their test. It's to be hoped that will include how to join the motorway. Using the indicator does not give the right to immediately move into lane 1 and sod the rest of us, nor does it include...

    Newbie saying howdo

Thanks, I'll follow that up and look at the videos. I have used AutoGlym products in the past and found them to be excellent.

    Newbie saying howdo

Howdo all I live in Leicestershire and own a 2013 Focus 1.0, purchased March 2016. Most of the summer was spent experimenting with various brands of valeting and detail kit. The car is solid red (not metallic) and from a few feet away looks perfect. A closer inspection shows that paintwork...

    Dashcam prosecutions

Had one fitted when I bought the current transport - 13 reg Focus 12 months ago. In the event of a prang it would provide incontrovertible evidence for the insurance company. An invaluable accessory in my opinion. I'm a newbie on the forum and clearly there is a lot of info here from...
