What daft car names have been released by manufacturers? I guess we should be grateful they are moving away from numbers and going towards names but some of them are just so wierd.

Qashquai, Matiz, Fuego and Multiplas! Why? I guess they might mean soemthing in some languages but you've got to wonder how much thought went into these.

Which wierd car names can you think of?

I think every manufacturer (that actually names cars rather than just numbers them) comes up with an awful or silly name from time to time.

The Ka, was that named to be text-speaky or after the Egyptian Pharoah, the Nigerian river, countless other things?!

I mean, Fiesta - what's that all about that's a mediterranean party, not a car! Perhaps they should have called it a Siesta instead.

Escort is an art pamphlet or someone who "goes to parties" professionally. Yet that was the name for a popular rally car, through the ages.

Mondeo is supposed to be a word universally understoond to mean the world. Great.

Perhaps I'll leave Ford they're getting a bashing there!

It's easy to come up with good names though. I think "Charger" is up there. Maybe "Challenger". "Viper". "Mustang" to a lesser extent.

Wait a minute, maybe its only the American's that can come up with good car names!

Mind you there is the Lancer, that's pretty cool, and its a very unamerican car.

nissan cedric, nissan sylvia and i believe the mitsubishi starion was ment to be the mitsubishi stallion, as it was ment for the american market but when the name was said in japan it was mis-pronounced.

There is the VW Bora. It does not come out right in Icelandic because it is a word over the thing you sit on(and I'm not talking about a chair:toung:)

Anything with a number for a name. Peugeot and BMW comne to mind. But then Ferrari had a 308 years ago, Wonder how Peugeot managed to 'borrow' that?

All the old Fiats: 127, 128, 131, 132 etc.

Older Renaults: 4,5,6,9,11,14,16,18,20,25,30 etc.

Saabs: 9x or 9xx

Skoda: 105, 130

Perhaps Bentley 8 is forgiveable.

my first car was a "Singer Chamois". It was an old "E" reg car, 1966. Wish I had it now they're worth quite a bit of pennies now!
