Mondeo 07 strange ignition fault

So my car intermittently won’t start. No lights, nothing, but battery is charged. If I get out, open the bonnet, get into car, turn ignition (still no power) then close bonnet... the car will then start. Bizarre but works every time. Is it battery in key maybe?

Sounds a lot like a loose or frayed wire to me, the action of slamming the bonnet is just enough to free it.

Keyfob batteries are a common cause of non starts so before you start ripping out the loom try that. Did you get a spare key, does this work ok? Are you getting any error/fault codes from the diagnostic port? However this would not explain the lack of lights if you are talking headlights not dash lights.

A bad earth can also cause this, disconnect and reconnect the earth lead and see if that improves things for you.

it’s strange that it’s so systematic though, if I do this it starts, like bypassing an electrical cut off. No fault codes, no lights on dash, nothing. Very odd. Thanks for your reply, I’ll get key checked.
