I am looking to get my insurance sorted out and was wondering if any of you guys had any tips for me on how to haggle for a lower price also what would you think would be the best option, a policy in my own name or as a named driver. A policy in my own name is costing me around £1800 for something like a saxo vtr or a fiesta zetec s or roughly £1200 for a corsa. As a named driver the fiesta etc would be around £1300 and a corsa at £800. I do have have a few months of ncb built up as a named driver, not sure if other companies will take this into consideration. I just turned 21 about month ago so my prices have dropped a little for me otherwise i was looking at almost £2000 for a corsa alone.

There's little room for haggling with insurers these days. Most operate on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.

Bear in mind that the finance industry makes a net loss from car insurance anyway.

I would battle on and keep policy in your name so you start to build up your own NCD. Some companies do allow named drivers to accrue NCD but most insist that the main driver is the policy holder.

Try a supermarket quote online, then ring Direct line and Admiral then try a small independent broker (www.millardsinsurance.co.uk - get a telephone quote, say you know me and see if they can beat your other quotes. They have access to a lot of specialist schemes but are not good at modified cars.)

The quotes mentioned are from online comparison sites with admiral quoting me the cheapest. Will phone direct line and aviva although neither were able to give me a quote online. What name should i give to millards? Waynne from TC might not be appropriate.

I would prefer to have the policy in my name but im also considering becoming a named driver, build up NCD and then take out my own policy.

They all know me in both offices! I used to work with the boss (David) for another insurance broker and I do their website as well :D.

Add your Mum to the policy as a second driver. I did this when I renewed and it saved me £300! This is a good one for under 25s.

Lol i forgot to mention that the quotes iv been given are with my mum, dad and sister as named drivers if i want the policy out on my name. Adding my mum also saved about £3-400 but because my insurance is so high to begin with, it doesnt make a significant impact.

Sorry to ask why do you need insurance to drive, Here in SA you must have one while
you're still paying for it. Then you can decide if you're going to cancel it or keep it, for if someone steals it, smashes into it, hael or weather damage.

Legal requirement for all drivers to have a minimum of Third Party insurance here in the UK. Pretty much for the fact that if you have an accident, and it's your fault the injured party has some way to get compensation.

UtK, have you played around with the name of your job? Sometimes there's two or three options which fit without lying that can shave a few quid off.

Also, look to see what you can take out without losing anything. I take fully comp with windscreen cover, tend not to need anything else.

Here you can claim from the 3rd party the goverment that is why we pay now R 9.80
for petrol and next week 29 cent more, But for injury only.
