Please before i start don't give me any answers like buy a new car as i have just bought a mitsubishi galant 2.0 glx and i can't afford to just go and buy a new one.

i'm just looking to spend a few hundred pounds to start it's a standard factory spec no mods as of yet so whats the first thing i should be looking at doing?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Mike

nice to see someone starting with a clean sheet and being realistic. Bloody well done mate.

Sensibly, get it fully serviced by a decent operator. You don't need a Mitsubishi specialist - the Japanese generally make very good use of tried and tested technology and refine it to a point that it's virtually bullet proof.

Fresh brake fluid is a good idea, pads all round if necessary, and change the discs if they're getting thin.

Get the wheels aligned properly (ie. full four wheel setup) rear wheels make a massive difference to FWD cars despite the fact that they're not driven.

Check tyres, replace any dubious ones (try Viking Protech II's - I like them, sticky and grippy and well priced).

There's not a huge amount you can do to ramp the performance of a NAT ASP petrol engine, but a decent drop in panel replacement filter will help a bit.

Other than that, you've got yourself a really nice car that will probably do 500,000 miles with nothing more than regular servicing.

get the A/C drained/deep vacuum/and recharged.

Beyond that -- err, clean inside and out and enjoy very comfortable driving.

cheers mate for the advice and speaking of comfort your telling me!

It feels like i'm sat up in bed only softer with my full leather interior. ha ha.

anyway first thing ill do at the weekend is get it in for a service.

cheers mike

Hi and welcome. You've got a good car there. HDI has covered the sensible points. It would be worth getting the suspension lowered and stiffened - I found the Galants had a very soft ride and tended to wallow a bit.

Hi Wayne,

Got your idea on lowering the suspension, any recommendations on Sports suspension?
