The Dual Mass flywheels (DMF) seem to be nothing but a problem.

Why do manufacturers fit them and does a solid flywheel make much difference to the smooth running of the engine?

What are your experiences of DMF and did you replace it with a solid one and what were your impressions of it?

No mine is fine actually but I expect the clutch will go in the next year or so and I'm looking at my options. If the clutch needs doing then I might as well swap in a solid and lighter flywheel. My local garage suggested a solid flywheel and I was already thinking along these lines already.

dont know if t fits the 4wd - should do as its only a transfer box thats different - but the cheapest seems to be the VR6 clutch and the G60 flywheel, OEM DMF is around £230 however if you are looking at swapping to the 6 speed it doesnt fit and requires a 240mm clutch
