Cowboy mechanics

Have you ever been caught out by cowboy mechanics doing work on your car that turns out to be completely shoddy?

I get wound up when I'm forced to pay for a trial and error keep replacing parts until it works properly! Nope sorry it wasn't the gearbox then, we should fit a new engine now and see if that stops the creaky door. ;)
 
Since the age of 12, I have been into repairing computers and such. I have built up such experience I can practically determine the problem just by looking at it! ;)

So I do not except trial an error from a mechanic, some one who is supposedly trained to repair and diagnose faults with cars. Do it once and properly...

This is the trouble with the modern mechanic they are to reliant on computers to diagnose the problems for them;)
 
Different manufacturers seem to go to different levels of detail with fault coding. BMW is almost pornographic with the explicit nature of fault codes.

Makes for much cheaper fixes than the elimination process that some adopt
