i recently bought a sony xplode 52x4 head unit and also i bought a set of pioneer 130 watt door speakers it sounds ok but has the head unit got the power to run another set of door speakers ?? can you help ?? will i have to buy an amp? let us know cheerz.

yes its a 4 channel internal amp. 2 for the front and 2 for the rear.
your head unit can only supply a max of 52w on each channel so theres no chance of over running the speakers. however if you turn up the volume you will start to get clipping where the internal amp cant provide enough power,
for most applications you wont need an external amp unless your wanting to run some decent 6x9s or a sub.

I agree with pgarner, if you have some speakers/subs other than small, standard car ones you will need to get an amp to power them for the head unit just cannot give the kind of power for them to run properly.

but the 1 set of 130 watts will work ok yeh? bloody hope so ive them runin now
can u sugest a reasonably good amp 2 power a set of 6x9's and maybe a sub in the future is it also better 2 connect the door speakers staight 2 the amp or is the head sufficent? because i live in spain theres alot smaller range 2 choose from bloody spains crap 4 stuuf like that
cheerz

what sort of money are you thinking of spending, would give a good range then, also what power are you needing?

4 channel 500 watt??

2 channel 250 watt
or 4 channel 250??

Just like everything else you buy, quality = a pretty price. A good reliable amp will be expensive but if you just want a few extra watts then go with a cheap one. When you start building them for quality, you are going to have to pay a bit more for them.

IF your going to be going very loud then connect the door speakers to the Amp, your head unit gives enough for main driving.
i like my alpine amps, i paid £100 (E150)for a 2 channel vibe to run my 4 6x9 and it could handle them not bad (started to clip at the top end when i was setting them up as the amp wasnt powerful enough)

um... was that meant pgarner??

something along the lines of

click.......damn not worked.....click click... hmmm... ahh there we go :p

lol.... happerns to us all... an me bout 5 mins ago with pm's lol...

dunno how many it sent all i know is that its alot

my set up so far is.......head unit to a cross-over in each front door which powers a mid (door speaker) and a tweater in each door. the same again in there rear doors, then i have my alpine 3000 watt amp in the boot once again to a cross over, with 2 more 6 x 9's and 2 1500 watt s type subs...and in an estate it sounds super :cheesy:

well i probably want a nice set of 6x9 and a sub bt im not lookin 2 buy the best but i still want quality you know. I'll probable spend about lol well not really sure wot could i get 4 about 200 to 300 pound? quite a nice setup no? also i have a bit of a banger of a car lol and im quite sure all the panels and that are gona vibrate like mad can u suggest anything?(lol buy a new car) im in the process of making my astra look like a GSI cos im poor an cant afford a real one lol cheerz

Dynamat? that is a make no? how cum people dont put big-ass P.A equipment in cars? is it purely because P.A works off 240 volts and cars are only 12 volts? coz that would be bloody loud! well i'll av2 look in2 sum shops bt theres very little 2 choose from.

dynamat is a make - but not of speakers, its a sound deadaning material (stops rattleing )
you can run PA speakers in your car and connect them up to an car amp but they wont sound to great.

again i doubt i will be able 2 buy the dynamite stuff ill have a good look round lol ide have to put a hell of a car amp to power my P.A speakers they are peavy black widow hi/sys about 700 watts.
well now i just got to save up sum cash lol
cheerz 4 all ya advice!

They make amps that will push well above 700 watts, but they can get a little expensive for the better quality ones!

This is very true! Forgot most PA are made of paper. I havent had much dealings with PA speakers, sorry! Had my fair share of car subs, but none than big! I guess the biggest I have ever seen in person was a 32 inch. But it was in a shop under glass and not hooked up! Mostly all I have dealt with is up to 12's and 15's. Love my bass!!!

Peavey Black Widows are stunning drivers. PA cabs usually use paper cones because they're light and therefore efficient.

And they will stand a true 700 watts RMS across the whole useable bandwidth (up to about 2kHz) all night.

Not many car amplifiers will ever deliver 700 watts in that way.

ah also i try to install my pioneers in the back where there are already standard crappy speakers i took them out wired up the new one's an they just crunched and distorted at very low volume and so i tryed them in the front and they sounded well good so what could that be loose speaker cables? the speaker conectors are in good condition maybe it could be the conectors at the back of the head unit? hopefully all it needs is some new speaker cable.

its ok me an my old man fixed it the bloke who installed my head unit had put 2 channel cables in2 one single cable or something and were kind of canceling eachother out but nw its fine lol and i also just found out nominal power and power, i woz worried i woz putting too much power through my head by powering my 130 watt door speakers but there acctual power is like 25watts nominal lol i no im onli an amature. so my 52x4 can power alot more than i thorght!!

Underpowered amplifiers will quickly wreck crossovers and HF drivers if you run the amplifier into its clipping range. This is when the output voltage swing hits one of the supply rails and squares off the top (or bottom) of the waveform.

where is a gd place 2 put a set of 6x9's i know on the parcel shelf but its a bit flimsy and also its plastic lol so im not sure is there really anywhere else to mount them i guess without starting to customise thats really the best place no on the shelf.

beef up your parcel shelf using some mdf

I did exactly this in 1987 with a Fiat 127 hatch. Mounted 6/9" Clarion units with cross-axial tweeters on it. And it worked beautifully with a pair of 4" coaxial Clarions in the front doors.

Head unit was a Clarion 930HP , which back then, cost £250 !!!

And it was a truly musicaly enjoyable setup.

Yes, exactly that.. I my case I used the original as template and use 1" chipboard (which could be considered LDF ie. low density fibreboard). THis also avoided butchering the car interior. Once the speaker holes were cut I covered the top surface with thin pile carpet and fixed some draught excluder foam around the edges to stop rattles and vibration (as if a Fiat you'd notice anyway!).

i did the same as hdi the 1st time.got a sheet of 12mm mdf and cut around. covered it in blue carpet to match the interior a the time. i could neer get rid of the squeaks and rattles tho

Second time i used the original shelf as wanted more OEM look.
cut out a section to fit under the shelf, cut out speaker holes and bolted it down. covered the holes in mesh and recovered in black carpet.

My Clarion 940HP head unit stayed with me for ten years and went through 3 three cars.

I never bothered uprating the head unit in the Primera but when the lamps failed (yes, I forgot to mention that in the reliability discussion!) in 2005 I fitted it with a Blaupunkt MP54 Sevilla head unit.

This is now in the wife's Seat Ibiza.

Peugeot's factory system in the 406 is great as it has JBL amps and speakers so no need to replace anything. Unless, of course, it goes bang one day.

it wont matter what car you have it will still vibrate ive got earthquake magmas 12in,the number plate was the worst on mine so i used heavy duty velcro underneath it and screws, it worked, you could try dynamat but it comes at a price or brown bread and i dont mean kingsmill lol

hey peeps
i know this isn't nothing to do with I.C.E but my head-lineing has dropped right down
anyone got any good ideas of how to like stick it back on the ceiling?

i got another one for you i have a set of 3way house speakers (60 watt power handling)
they will not work in my car will they? on my head-unit?

My mate had a couple of Celestions sitting in the rear footwell of his Mk1 escort. It meant no rear passengers but sounded fantastic. ;)
