The factory water temp gauge does not have any numbers and my boost gauge only reads to 20 psi so changed it for a 30 psi one in case I wanted to up the pressure a bit when the car begins to feel slow ;)

They have been tested against other brands and were found to be very accurate but they have a recall button that will show the highest reading when you are stopped and I felt that this would be a great feature at the track. .

The functions whilst not necessary on a near stock motor are worth having on a well tuned engine where levels are often more critical
I have a set of apexi electronic gauges which have a control box that gives a lot of functions. This works oil ,water and exhaust temps. Oil and fuel pressure and boost level.
You can set each gauge to give a flashing warning and/or a warning beep at whatever reading you choose. ( low or high)
There is also a peak setting that records the highest reading and it a 30 second playback facility which means you can record and playback just one or all the readings back for say a standing quarter.
Not essential I know but they are very useful from time to time.

Any one with an interest in their cars or engines can have gauges. My Mini is a pain for this as it doesn't have any water temp, oil temp or boost gauges and no way of telling how hot the engine is. N14 engines do tend to run hot, but it would have been nice to have some. Minis with the chrono pack came with water and oil temp gauges, but that was an optional £2k extra if memory serves me.

Have 3 older gauges on the A pillar 4 ages so have replaced 2 of them with 1 to go when available funds allow ;)
