Drove about 400 miles at the weekend and I must have seen about 40 cars broken down. I guess overheating was the main problem. Keep an eye on your temp gauge and if you are stuck in a jam turn off the engine! Putting on the warm blowers in the car will usually help keep your coolant temperature down. Make sure your antifreeze is OK (it acts as a coolant in the summer!)

Are there any other summer breakdown causes that you can think of?

Largely because so many of these summer breakdowns occur in cars that are rarely driven or serviced throughout the rest of the year.

Most recent vehicles have plenty of margin for extra cooling. Towing can be harsh, get an oil/water heat exchanger fitted if you tow anything heavy.
