Aye - you can get remaps relatively cheap now. As the lads have said, an IK might or might not make much difference, but it is a good start on modifying. Uprated discs and pads are also a good beginner's job, you get your hands dirty and you feel good after cos you've saved money on a couple of hour's garage labour costs. If you enjoy it, coil springs and shocks are relatively easy too, and usually don't need very specialist tools beyond a spring compressor and sometimes angle-headed spanners to get to the top nut on the strut.
