Are modern cars too heavy

Do you think that modern cars are too heavy? Weight seems to have increased from around 1200kgs to 1500kgs or more. Bigger "off road" cars don't help either but I think it is all the safety and things like air con that add to the weight.
 
yup of course they are but the consumers are greedy now the want everything.

big alloys
air con / climate control
extra sound deadening
most cars come with this as standard now
 
yep definately, think my scooby is about 200kgs or more heavier than the classic. But pay the price, a pg says, for aircon, heated electric seats etc etc...
 
Buy something like the Integra Type R and see what light is all about! No radio, No Aircon etc...

Real drivers don't need gadgets or sound deadening.

It is a shame that modern cars are generally heavier but the need for more economy is making manufacturers think lighter. The trouble is they are coming out with Smarts, Aygos and 500's. All cute but very diminutive in size.
