Do you think all the gadgets and computers we rely on in cars are making them too complex or does the reliability and convenience pay off for the fact that they are often harder to fix or diagnose when things go wrong?

Long live the XUD
Apparently electronics chips etc generally only live for 20 years at the most so imagine a couple of processors packing up at the same time at a grand a pop that could very well be some exotic prestige cars simply wrote off. I have a 30 year old air cooled vw which even I can sort out however I also have 2 newish cars which so far 3 mechanics with 1000's £££s of diagnostic kit can't find the very obvious fault. I should have scrapped them but i'm not giving in. long live the XUD engine (though I don't have one any more)

a ballpark figure, but you get my drift, imagine the tech in a 7 series for example, easily wrote off due to a bit of ageing
