wots my engine

hiya guys ok im quite new to all this so please bear with me
I've recently just bought a pug 306 meridian 1.8 on a W plate (2000)
and im unsure what the engine is i see lots of names and numbers thrown around the forum (mi16, silvertop/blacktop, etc) when it comes to engine but to be honest i ain't got a clue what half of them mean and was wondering if someone could enlighten me on this and possible let me know what engine i have or just how to find out what engine i have

It's a 1.8 16v I know that much,

It's not an MI16 but it does share some resemblance, as the block and head is similar,

What did you want to know for chap? Looking at modding?

yer wanna start with some basic mods for now any advice would be great

The intake manifold from the gti6 will fit as will the exhaust manifold, cat and exhaust system, the air box is pretty much the same but inwould remove the front pipe and find a bigger one and route the intake behind the lower grill, taking out one the passenger side fog light is a popular choice, also the rear axel and struts from a gti6 will all fit as well. As do the front brakes
