Why would you want to have an live with a 1000bhp car? It will run gallons to the mile, use a clutch every time you go to the shops and eat tyres like a woman buys shoes!

What is the point of these super high bhp figures? Is it just bragging rights and dyno duelling or is there more to it?

I doubt I'll ever own a car with more than 300bhp so It's not something I've thought about much.

Why not ?
High horsepower doesn't always mean all those things.

Granted 1000 may be a tad ott for shopping but 600 or thereabouts can be perfectly driveable if enough money is spent.

You can drive one of the new GTRs modified to 600-700 bhp down to the shops like a pussy cat if you want.

I would love to feel the power of 1000 bhp car, better still if I actually owned it. There was a chap at the Ace Café not too long ago who had a GTR with some 900 bhp plus, he arrived at the venue coming from some distance away looking totally relaxed, so it is possible to have an extremely powerful car that would appear to be a joy to drive around town.

you will find that they really aren't that bad economy wise, like most cars they really only use alot of fuel when you put the foot down a bit, turbo's anyway, i previously owned a GMH HJ Monaro LE with a supercharged 427 BB Chev with top figures of 930hp @flywheel and 9.73 seconds the only time i took it down the 1/4 mile, and used to get best of 23mpg on highway drives which i thought was pretty good but it was a real pig in peak hour traffic due to the cam.
i think it is mainly about manufacturers bragging rights though

Because I can!!. I have four cars so driving in rush hour down to Tescos is done in a vehicle that likes that. Personally im driven by setting records so I need the Power but it drives to all shows & competitions without a problem. It makes a fast car which is useable & great fun on the road.
The guy in the 460bhp Escort said on the road there would be little difference he found out the hard way & never mentioned it again. This with only 700 bhp at the time.

Hey, Madrod you should enter in the "silver state classic challenge", that will show your cars useful potential!
90miles at full boost, over 200mph,steady .

I can't see a problem with 1000 bhp. It's the way it's delivered and deployed that matters. I wouldn't want a 1000 bhp car that won't idle calmly and won't pull below 7000 rpm. As a road driver this would be a bit of a wind up for me.

exactly right! all these cars that have it make that power up high but are no worse than granny's shopping trolley run about around town, vid i saw on youtube had an 8 second 1600hp LSX powered rx7 that was quite happy to use 91ron around town and drove quite well on it, when you put the foot down the ecu kicked in and pumped 116 ron into it and yeah.... basically can you imagine spending however much on a veyron and it was only really drivable over 100mph??? big hoorahs if that happened

Telsa's Model S isn't known for it's low speed lethargy but it as docile as a lamb provided you don't shove the pedal too far down. It's very very controllable provided you exercise restraint with your right foot.
