What car would you want as a "sunday" car and why. I fancy one of these later in the year:

Subaru P1
Mitsubishi Evo 4 ( with evo 6 engine )
Mitsubishi Evo 5
BMW E36 M3
Skyline R32 GTR
Skyline R33 GTS-T ( with 6.0L corvette engine )
Mercedes 190 cosworth
Mark 4 escort rs turbo ( converted to 4 wheel drive and full zetec engine )

or anything else i should consider ?

Im leaning towards the P1 or one of the skylines as you hardly see them about - and there fast ( just as an extra ).

What you think?

Loads of P1's about down my way, much rather have a TME Evo so much less "chav".

Atm I really fancy an Integrale Evo 1. If I get the price I want for some of the major parts of my project, I'll be in the market for one in about a month with £15k to spend ;)

I have to chip in with a suggestion of a 944turbo  Rare(ish), practical, classic insurance, excellent parts backup, good knowledgeable community if you want to do own servicing. 250bhp as standard but easily tuned.

Otherwise in your list the Skylines are the most interesting to me, just cant get into the Evo/Scooby scene (maybe I'm too old). The Cossie Merc is very nice but probably the slowest of the list there.

Nice dilemma to have mate, let us know what you decide :D

Love the balistic Integrale's but the steering wheels on the wrong side, damn hard to make swift progress when you can't see what's coming the other way. Love to see the pics if you do get one MA :D

if its quick fun spirited drive you want?? for cheapness go for the scooby or spend a grand or 2 more and get an evo for a less common car
but if you want a car for cruising and a car that the enthusiast will notice the merc 190e cossie is the bollx!!! but in black or white

Thanks for all your reply so far.

I love the evos but there's a good few about - even more subarus.

Love the skyline but more expensive ( for GTR ) than evos.

Escort rs turbo I really like these - classic insurance. Convert to 4 wheel drive then shove a full zetec engine in then you can have a 350+ bhp car that will be quicker than evos and subarus ( on the straights ) and is relativly rare.

Merc cossys are nice but pretty hard to buy in the first place. Could you not just supercharged it to speed it up a bit?

What Zetec engine you getting those power figures from.
The amount of work to be done convert to 4 wheel drive is massive as will be the cost. By the time you've coverted to 4 wheel drive and slapped the engine in. Plus you'll need new suspension and brakes you'll have spent enough to of just gone out an bought a mint Escort Cossie.
Put a bit more money into a Cossie and you'll see 350bhp easy.

Just Reading through forums etc I heard it could.

What about the merc cossy? Really hard to find though.

Was also looking at the mini Mayfair - hehe. But putting a larger engine and new gearbox in ( 5,6 speed )

or would I be better with something like an evo?

I'm after : rare, wow factor from public etc and fast( I'm happy to supercharged etc if need be )

Merc Cossie?

Is that the 190E 2.3 16v circa 1989?

they come in 2.5 aswell do the not?

Also been searching ebay - what does everyone think of the Subary Type R ( 2 door coupe ) vs nissan skyline r33 ( gts- t ) i know the subaru has more power and 4 wheel drive but the name skyline is enough to make you want to buy it

I think there was a 2.5 litre derivative as well.

I won't drive anything now that doesn't have at least six airbags, force limiters on the belt tensioners and a passenger cell made from solid titanium. Once hit, million times shy.

What budget have we got here? I know I bang on about Porsches but I been in most of the models. What about a 928 for rarity. Engines starts at 5ltr V8, manual or auto options, at least 330bhp, perfect weight distribution, rear wheel steering, every toy you could want, tidy ones from £6k-£8k and you can supercharge them. Not many around as they were around £60k-£70k new! Be easier to find one then a Merc Cossie thats not been trashed.

what about a Cobra Kit Car? my mates next door neighbour had a 6ltr one, the noise was just fantastic from it, the whole neighbourhood just shook.

The Boxster is also worth a test drive. If it were a Sunday car i'd be happy with just 2 seats so there is a world of possibilities open to you.

Hmmm. Easy, it would have to be a Monaro VXR500. 6.0 V8 Supercharged to 500bhp standard.

:amuse: Animal!

With that budget I'd be looking at good non-TME Evo 6's without a doubt but even they're dead common nowadays. I'd be tempted by an EK9 but I'm getting fed up of FWD.

Of course, that's just me, you should get whatever you like the most!

Well the 3 I like the most are the evos ( 4,5&6 ). Subaru type R and the skyline. Not many early evos around here. Not many scooby type r's either but loads of 4 door ones. Hardly any skylines here aswell.

I've had a look from what I can see

Evo 4 - 4K - 6K
Evo 5 - 5K - 8K
Evo 6 - 7K +

Subaru type R - £4500 +

skyline gts-t ( 3500+ )

skyline gtr ( 6500 + )

i already have my sunday car :) but if i could have another it would be between

cossie engined mk2 escort
rs500 cosworth
nova c20let turbo
clio 172 running the ktec 250bhp turbo conversion kit

i would love one of them Monaro's think they are good looking cars and a good engine in them

but i am looking at another motor and a sunday motor at that am looking to sell or swap my 78 trans am for a kitt the knight rider car have wanted one for years and think this year i will get it might be end of teh year as i want top money for my 78 so best time to sell is in the summer
and best time to buy is winter once the show season is over but will i be able to wait
most likey not

I'd say around 4-6K but if there's a car around 8-9K that would be a better choice I'd just wait a bit longer.

I fancy the evo 4 but I'm looking at a 2 door car. Can I turn an evo into 2 door?

Was also thinking about Porsche 944 non turbo ( around 2-3K ) then dropping either an ls1/2 engine in it as it's near enough a straight fit.

Or a skyline gtst drift car. Can apparently get these engines to around 600 bhp.

And have been looking at Mazda rx7 twin turbo tonight. Can't get my head around this 1.3L rotary engine thing though as I read else where it was a 2.6
