Tyre shaving. To add to OG's very valid points.

A total waste of money for the road.
A moderate waste of money for track days.
Absolutely essential if circuit racing in a series specifying a road tyre.

I used to have it done to Yoko's back in the 90s, brand new tyres taken down to 3mm, nearly broke my heart as well as my wallet, but it was the only way to be on the pace as these were a "control" tyre. We also had to have a set of new un shaved tyres for the wet.....
Other than being quick the only other advantage was that the tyre didnt roll its tread and the corners actually lasted better than a new tyre would.

If anyone wants this done for free I'm your man. Give me your car with a new set of tyres on it and I'll drive around in my top secret prescribed way to enhance the wear and reduce the tread in a totally natural way. ;)
No one has actually taken me up on this TOTALLY FREE performance enhancing service I'm offering yet. (Limited to cars with over 200bhp engines though.)
