I would say this one is for oilman but anyone feel free to jump in...

I get most of my car parts from Euro car parts as i have a cheeky little discount code and not too long ago i changed the oil in my 205 1.8td as i had to change the rocker gasket ....
I used ECPs Triple QX 10w40 semi synthetic, seems alright thus far.... and i may even start using there fully synthetic 5w40....

So it is actually any good? I read somewhere they use Shell base stocks...

Who makes the basestock is a bit irrelevant, the oil is made on a budget, so they cut corners. The chances are it will be a basic basestock and reduced additive packahe.

So would be best to avoid?

Ok then, another question,

I maintain my sisters 2005 Corsa 1.4, last oil change i used a 5w-30 fully synthetic...
GM recommend that or a 10w-40 semi synthetic ,
I personally think that the 5w-30 is too thin as it sounds a bit "tappety" (its only done 40000 miles) but dont want to use a semi synthetic in it....
Would Gulf Competition 5w-40 or 10w-40 be a suitable replacement?
Also would the gluf stuff be ok in my 205 1.8td 1994?
Cheers :)

As we don't sell it, it's not something I should really give my opinion on.

The Gulf 5w-40 is spot on for the Corsa and 205, you really couldn't get any better.

I think TripleQX is fine. Some of my mates are using it. Though I opt for Shell's fully synthetic engine oil. Very high or low temp friendly and way cheaper than others.
