Slapping sound

So my friend gave me the car cause he owed me a Lil bit anyway said something like a slapping sound was happening by the timing chain belt area,but got a couple things to do before I can start it and listen to it

Timing chains are "self-tightening" by means of an oil pressurized tensioner. If you need to "tighten" it, it sure as sunshine needs replacing.

Yeah, I would definitely replace it then.
