Hi everyone,

I wanted to get back in to cars again so thought I'd have a look. Got a family so I have a Mitsubishi Delica, a huge 7 seater mpv come 4x4, a shogun with an espace body if you like.

Had a few fun cars in my youth, a Mini GT, Uno Turbo, X19, mk1 Escort and a lot of crap, anyone remember the Vauxhall Chevette?

Anyway, thought I'd relearn all the stuff I've now forgotten and lost the confidence to do. Used to do oil changes, brakes, stuff like that. So the plan is too buy a small cheap basic car and do it all again. Any advice as to what car will be greatly appreciated.

See you all online soon

Hi LutonBlue,
Walking the same path myself mate. Grew up with a Marina, an 'All Agro' and a 'Chuv'it' before I could afford decent cars. Recent 'family cars' have included two Porsche 944s and my current 'Dads taxi' is a '98 Subaru Impreza Turbo. I can higly recommend the 944 as a doer upper or if you want a more basic engine, the 924 was the powerplant from an old VW/Audi van. The owners club, PCGB is very friendly and has seperate registers for each model.
Of course, you could do worse than find an old Escort or Mini to renovate. Although, I'm now having flashbacks of lying under my old mini and cursing the lack of room to work from twenty years ago...
Keep us posted on developments 8)

Hi Luton Blue. What about an old Sierra Cosworth? I bet the insurance is pretty cheap for you on those if you get a classic policy.

hey and welcome lutonblue.
for a car it depends on how easy you want to be able to o the work. Alot of newer cars ( most post 99 cars ) are so ECU dependant and have so many sensors that you need a computer to find most issues. Luckly you can still do oil changes yourself but may need to reset a service display.
