ok, can anybody suggest why my mitsubishi Carisma might be running unevenly, while idling the rev's seem to rise and the drop off. I have some noise coming from the tappets, i plan on adjusting them so any info on how hard this is would be helpful too.

Many thanks :D

The GDi is actually a petrol engine.

GDi stands for gasoline direct injection.

It was an effort by Mitsubishi to run a lean burn petrol engine with direct injection and on excess air under low load conditions without compromising the way that the exhaust catalysts work.

They are very complicated engines but there still is a throttle body to deal with the engine's air intake under 'conventional' petrol driving conditions.

I don't think that valve clearances are the first place to start.

Take off the ICV (idle control valve) and soke it pretol over night. The ICV will also cause the throttle body to get full of crap so look inside this when you take your inlet pipe off. If all else fails, new glow plugs, leads and distributer cap ;)

GDI is gasoline direct injection. But why would a diesel need a distributor cap and leads?

Diesel engines don't have throttles either.

Mitsubishi seems to have cause general confusion with the silly label.
