Hey, Im new to the whole car modding world and looking to get my first car very soon. Not to worried about the cost of the car obvously a second hand car, just looking to keep insurance as low as possible at 17. LOL.

Any suggestions on an advisable car, Idealy would want a manual, RWD, able to be hold a drift set up, around a 1.6 and able to be tuned to a good standard....

Alot to ask im sure but im sure it can be made possible even if its time consuming.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks alot

James

Alright mate...It's gonna be rather hard to find a car that you can use for drifting with a 1.6 engine. 1.6 cars that can be tuned though...a Civic! As for your questions feel free mate...we're a helpful bunch!

Thanks mate,

Suppose its something iv gota look into. my mates recently brought a civic and done some work to it and its performance is amazing.

James.

hey and welcome james.

rwd manual and 1.6 best bet would be a BMW then. go for a really old one, try and get one for around the £500 mark, basically so your not going to lose too much money with the insurance and can go TPFT because anything over a 1.2 is going to be murderous at 17

It might be worth looking at a Sierra. If you strip out the weight you will have a reasonable drifter. Then when you have some No Claims Bonus you can drop in a 2.0 Pinto or Cosworth lump and start to have some real fun.

Another option would be a MK1 escort - now in the Classic territory. There are loads of enthusiasts around driving them and I've seen a few drifting too.
