If you just replace the factory air filter with a performance panel version, then your engine will breath much better and be much better on the throttle.

The addition of an induction kit will produce much more noise from your engine with very little in the way of extra horsepower. Also, if you fit the induction kit then be aware that this MAY well bring up the 'check engine light' this is because the cars ECU is looking for a certain amount of air to come into the engine, and you will have brought in more air than it was meant to see therefore the ECU may well not like it.

I have a massive induction kit on my own Saab 9-3ss on a 2003. I was lucky enough to have been voted the 'Best Saab Car In Current Production Model' at the Saab GB Nationals at Haydock Park this year for the 2nd year in a row.
You will benefit greatly from having your car remapped by a tuning specialist; Viezu in Bromsgrove or Celtic Tuning for instance! I would have the induction kit fitted first, then this will be taken into account with the custom map for the car; this will then produce no 'check light' problem and big power gains.

I fitted a universal K&N cone filter (off my old Civic) to my 97 NG900 turbo auto. Just took top half off airbox off leaving the lower half with the cold air feed, & fixed the filter over it - works a treat. No check light etc & can now hear the turbo whistle & standard dump valve working too :-) whiiiiinnnneee - tisch

I'll get a couple up in a bit. It looks a bit tatty tbh, but matches rest of car :-/ the pipework is home made but it cost me nothing & improved performance makes me smile anyway ;-)

Like I said, a bit tatty, but does the job :-)
