Hi hope your all well, need some advice on my 2.00 tdci, it has some issues regarding misfiring and juddering when under acceleration, it is fine when it has reached a speed where it can cruise but when you throttle down it misses and vibrates again any suggestions apart from the addresses for scrap yards?

could it be two seperate issues? If it judders under hard acceleration could it be the clutch? As for misfiring... i would think it could be anything from dirty fuel (happened to a close friend recently) to injectors starting to fail... As per HDi.... has the CEL/MIL come up on your dash at all? If so, have you had a diagnostic check on it?

Hi fuel filter replaced three months ago, no lights on dash and no vibration through pedal or gear lever to suggest fly wheel or clutch, it feels like it wants to pull but is being held back. All injectors have been reproged for car so am thinking could be electrical rather than fuel, also wether it is connected or not the windscreen washer has stopped working although when button is pushed it inteferes with radio, ????!!

Hi no there are no fault lights, no smoke from rear end although when it ticks over it is very noisy till it gets on 1000 rpm then it settles down to a smooth idle then accelerate and it struggles,

Hi where is a good place to get this done please, went to ford to enquire they want £82.50 which could be cheap if it found something which i know it would but what i dont want to do is spend that money to find out it is terminal and car needs scrapping

Hi thanks for that, yes and there is no oil, i have in fact just had a flow back tes,t and it is saying two injectors are not working well am having two new ones put in so fingers crossed it is going to be that simple, thanks for all the suggestions from everyone much appreciated.

Assuming that diesel injectors are similar-ish to petrol ones, I was told once that if you have a problem with an injector or two then all of them should be flow-rate tested afterwards and matched up to make sure that the flow-rate is equal across all of the injectors, otherwise one could be putting through much more fuel than the others and lead to more problems.
Not sure how true this is buddy but it is worth asking the question from the garage in question.

Good luck and keep us updated with this one :)

Common rail diesel injectors are radically different to petrol ones. The pressures they handle are insane - circa 1400 times atmospheric - higher in some cases now with latest generation common rail systems. By comparison, petrol injectors work at something like 20 times atmospheric.

@Mobrem: Which plugs is to to which you refer?

Thanks HDi, so they don't need flow-rate proving then? not to worry, I had no idea of the true facts, but I would be failing in my duty if I did not mention the possibility of a potential issue if only two new injectors were bought by the young man.

Happy days!

They can still fail for similar reasons though. Tiny dirt particles are a huge enemy of CR injectors. I have heard anecdotally of them failing open and in one case boring a hole into the piston crown with the spray pattern forming a jet.

I suspect that poor flow is likely to afflict diesel injectors equally as it does petrol injectors. The difference being I suppose that a partially blocked petrol injector is just that. Partially blocked. A blocked diesel injector might well explode if the engine management failed to spot the situation by way of excess back pressure.

Hi well its seems to be getting worse, the new injectors have been installed new starter motor fitted, and now car doesnt want to start, fuel is getting through, injectors all matched up with machine. AAAAAGHHH bloody fords, back to mercs i think

Did we ever get fault codes (if any) read?

This is going to be cheaper than the process of elimination.

Modern diesel engines are complex beasts indeed.

oh dear traces of a mouse just found, god knows what damage has been done, will need to trace wires to ecu to check if any gnawing has gone on, lucky time and cost doesn't matter, [IF ONLY] Bloody nature, give me a tarmac chewing v8 any day rather than a field of nature, anyway thats enough ranting have a nice bank holiday all of you and thanks for advice so far will keep you all posted of any new leads,

leaky injectors are a common problem on these so might be worth getting a leak back test done,

also in terms of lack of power in the low end, there is a possiblity that the vanes on your turbo are sticking, taking it to a dealer will result in a new turbo and a bill for pleasure of about 1000 of your hard earned and no one wants that,

there other option is to diy or remove the turbo and take it to a specialist,
the diy options means removing the turbo, removing the turbine side housing and using a strong degreaser to on clog the vanes of crap.....
