hi all. Am new here. I am building up my car. It is a mk3 escort Rs turbo modded to Cosworth 4x4. 650bhp. After tips to help get best I can at 1/4 but still usable on road. With prob fit drag tyres at track

Greetings and welcome to our TorqueCars forum :)

You are in luck my friend, one of our most esteemed members on here @old-git is a veteran of drag racing things, is building a drag car that will cause many a raised eyebrow when it takes to the strip, loves old school Ford's - plus he just happens to live in Essex too :)

Hi t9 thanks for the reply
I went to send him a pm but can't see how too. Was reading one of his post is why joined lol

I think you might need to have made at least 5 posts first before the system will allow you to do this. But I think you could try clicking on OG's name in the tag on the left hand side of the post in one of his threads then click on 'Start a Conversation'.

Guess where new cant do every thing yet. That ok as it a long project lol

As long as it's not as long as OG's project otherwise my family will be collecting my Co-Op funeral cover before I have the chance to see your car on the strip

You can't rush craftsman ;)

Lol I hope not. I run the car at pod year ago with about 450-500 on cheap tryes and nackered shocks with old gearbox and diff.best so far was 11.3 @134. And with mate in car soft lunch 12.2@ 120.

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like a bit of a beast you are building there. Get up to 10 posts so you can upload some photos.

650bhp? That is a lot for a reliable YB road engine. I would be very interested in seeing the engine spec.

HAHA, very funny........:)

Linered block. Std bore. Long stud, spray jets, oil filter mount removed from block and twin oil feed fitted, long rods. 8.2:1 cr, ported head 27/25, twin scroll exhaust manifold with twin wastgates, s300fmw turbo,4" exhaust, hearts style inlet. With 8 injectors and 70mm throttle body, chargcooler, water/methanol.

Engine in lot bits lol

Main bit I'm after is info about wheels and gearing. I'm stuck at mow with 3.9:1 diff at mow as only ratio that close match with the ford front diff and supra rear. Front is 3.92 but rear 3.909. But hoping be ok as I'm using a skyline gear box which using a clutch type centra diff instead of a viscous plus can turn the front wheels off and adjust % that go to them too

On road using 205/40/17 but thinking on race day. Fit 225/50/16 drag radials but will have to lift it on the coilovers to fit them. Would this work of mess the drive of the line up

What exactly is a "27/25TS " manifold and what do the numbers mean ?-/
I have an ext gated TS/divided manifold on my car .

Great to see another YB owner.
27/25 are his port sizes. The twin scroll manifold with twin wastegates is whats required at this Power with that Turbo.

Would like to go for the efr9180 later. But would need go with new crank and bigger valve to make it worth it. Or new crank and a bit more boost lol

Yes im using the 9180. You certainly don't need bigger valves even at 950bhp that would help destroy your torque curve. 27mm inlet wont help either. Run smaller ports at higher Boost & get Bhp & Torque. What Boost are you running the 9180 will run 3bar ( 44psi) no probs.

At mow using the s300fmw prop run 2.2-2.4 bar with bit water/methanol 1.2-1.8 bar with out. Think when it comes to setting it up I go to mark at mad

Head on bench right now the ports are 26.2mm tappered on inlet and around 24mm exhaust you think best to just clean them up and not go 27/25

Head ported 27mm inlet and 25mm exhaust

It would seem that you are getting your numbers wrong/ mixed up when referring to the TS exhaust manifold :)

So I take it that the divided EQUAL length split pulse manifold will have 25mm ID runners to match the exhaust port diameter which will help keep the gas speed up to the turbine and help get the best boost rise ??.

That my porting on head. There is a , then I put twin scroll manifold the number are for the head ports and not to do with manifold

Excellent choice of the BW turbo for the power level you want |B
Are you going with the flat or cupped turbine wheel ??

That my porting on head. There is a , then I put twin scroll manifold the number are for the head ports and not to do with manifold

Yes BUT you will need the manifold runner ID to be port matched to the head for the best result.:)

The turbo and manifold is of mate car it done very little mileage about 300 odd. The set up on his car make 650+ but he run high boost. It a 0.91ar

I see that the manifold may be divided it is not an equal length and will still work ok it would have been better if the runners were as close as possible to equal length.
I see the exhaust ports are rectangular so when you mentioned 27/25 were you saying that they were the inlet /exhaust valve diameters ??
