Hello all,

It feels nice being here. I'm Steeven from Mauritius and I drive a Ford Escort Mk6 LX 1.4.....I haven't done much on the car yet, only for a sports exhaust and next thing I'm planning is an induction kit and sport air filter.

I really am considering putting a turbocharger in time to come...I would apreciate some advices before going for that....I know some people will tell me to swap the engine rather, but thing is I am quite happy with the 1.4 and only require some HP, nothing like racing and as well I think that blow off valve sound is just cool :)....any advices please??? Thanx :amuse:

hey and welcome mate

the reason so many will tell you to swap the engine is by the time you have strengthened the engine and gearbox, remembering to lower the engine compression, fitted all the plumbing for the turbo - intake, intercooler and exhaust.
then youve got to map it.
i would say look towards £2-3000 to do the swap properly.
you could easily get a doner car with engine gearbox and all wiring for less than that easily

if you want the tsssshh sound you can buy electronic ones that run on compressed air

Thanks for the advice mate....thing is I'm not from the UK and things are much cheaper where I am, besides I believe that I can obtain good deals as well from mates of mine who are in the field. Only thing everyone is busy! So what I had in mind was to get myself well informed before going out to get things done so that I can save the whole explanatin of things steps and use some time to get things ready as well.

I didn't know about the intercooler...that's the only thing that seems complicated to me....is that compulsory? I mean is there no other way of settling this? As well what's the difference in driving/servicing/care after that the car has been turbocharged? Running costs, fuel consumption etc?

Thanks again :)

A 1.6 RS turbo engine would be ideal. There is so much work invovled in converting a NASP to a Turbo.

Intercoolers are not absolutley required on a turbo but you will be losing a lot of potential power due to the heat created in the air compression.

May I also wish you a very warm welcome to the site.
