bhp + torque

now i know it probably sounds a bit stupid me asking this.

i know torque is how much effort the car uses to turn the wheels. an how much pull it has
what does bhp do or tell you? :embarrest:
 
BHP is a function of torque and revs. Double the torque at constant revs then you get double the BHP. Double the revs and keep a constant torque figure (difficult) then you also get double BHP.

That's why a 160bhp diesel car feels like a 4 litre petrol in the midrange.
 
A car will accelerate in parallel to the Torque Curve. The higher the curve the greater the accelerative force. Torque is a way of expressing power in the real world and is a better guide of the pulling power of a car (acceleration not for picking up girls :D).
 
i allways learned tat torque tells something about accelleration/pulling power and bhp tells you something about the topspeed,at least this is what i think.
