I'm writing an article listing the 10 cars you must drive before you die.

I have lots of ideas myself but would be very interested to hear your suggestions as to which should make this shortlist.

Good luck, you will probably end up with a 100! A few years a go we were discussing singers/groups definitive songs and I decided to put a CD together containing one song from each mega artist. I ended up with 7 CDs and could have continued.

But, anyway, here goes:

Rolls Royce Silver Ghost
Model T Ford
Any Lamborgini
Any Ferrari
Any Aston Martin
F1 Car
Top Fuel Dragster
Group B Rally Car
Pagini Zonda
Bugatti Veyron (just for the engine noise)

Trouble with lists like this is that they are never long enough :)

Rather than the 10 best cars why not have groups like best diesel, automatic, coupe, supercar, muscle car etc. That would be challenging to find the best of each category and there must be 10 categories easily.

List journalism:- 5 reasons why it is bad.
1) Is lazy
2) Assumes people have a short concentration span
3) Will always be open to challenge and quickly out of date
4) Subjective and full of assumptions
5) Assumes that we all have a short concentraion span

hmmmm, well I would have to say

ferrari F40
Lotus Exige
Rover P1
Ford Model T
Toyota Supra MK 4
Honda NSX
RollsRoyce (not too fussed which on, aslong as its from or after the 80's)
Hayabusa powered Robin Hood (for the Insaneness :) )
Top Fuel Dragster
Plymouth Hemi Cuda 440 6 pack

The Rocket,
Maclaren F1,
Ferrari Dino,
Mini Cooper (the original),
Duesenberg Model J,
Rover P5B Coupe,
Lambo Miura S,
Corvette Stingray,
1969 Chevy Camaro SS,
Bugatti Veyron,
Jay Leno's Tank car,
Fiat 500 (original)...

Oops I've already gone over 10! It's abit difficult choosing & I've not even touched on todays cars yet

It is quite hard. I've been thinking about this and you've all given me some ideas.

I'm going to set some rules.
Under £200,000 price tag must be on sale 2008/2009 as new (except for the classic). No manufacturer may be listed twice. I will also set the categories as follows.

Automatic
Small Car (supermini class)
Coupe - must have 4 seats
Diesel
Classic car
Muscle car
Sports car
Super car
Track day car
Technology driven 4x4
One really rubbish car - the worst drivers car ever.

This should round us out as drivers if we all get to drive 1 of each of these? (I've already made great headway on the long article (it's more of a list of reasons than just cars so no danger of "list journalism" entering in here.)

dammit waynne, thats gonna make it a lot harder if its a new car, there are a lot of new cars that I dont like. :/

But I will try

Auto - 2008 Mustang
Small car - Mini cooper Works edition
Coupe - Nissan Skyline GT-R
Diesel - BMW 335D
Classic - Plymouth Hemi Cuda 440 6 Pack
Muscle - New Dodge Charger
Sports - Lotus Exige S2 (I think its a S2, the new fastest one)
Super - Merc SL AMD Black
Track day - Arial Atom (supercharged)
Tech 4x4 - (not quite sure what you meant here but) Bowler Wildcat?
Rubbish - Honda Jazz

some lower priced and maybe more readily available ideas:

gto twin turbo (driven - no inertia, wierd)
tuned mr2 turbo (driven - go cart)
rx7 (driven - scary)
Grinnall Scorpion (passanger - oh my f'in god - wow)
aston martin vanquish (want to)
ferrari testerossa or f40 (childhood dreams)
cobra (dream come true)
shelby gt (as above)
monster truck (who wouldnt? honestly)
thrust ssc land speed record holder (i drifted from the idea of easily achievable)

02 plated Astra 1.6 8v Club edition - err, thanks, Dad, I, err, think. Not sure I've ever noticed driving it. It just sort of as exciting as loading a dishwasher.

How about ten cars you should avoid driving during your natural life?

It was only a matter of time before this went silly -You have to have some restrictions otherwise it will simply a list of fantasies starting with the veyron or an F1 car

I would prefer to do it on a different basic - Road cars that I have driven or been a passenger in costing under £50K. (that way we keep away from fantasies)

I would select them on those that left a lasting impression for whatever reason and limit the choice to no more than five as any more and it will be repetitve.

so in no particular order..................

Most classy - Alvis TD21 convertable - One of the original british classic cars . Also wins best headturner by a mile (under £50K)

Most insane - 1000 bhp+ skyline called the top secret drag R - first time I experienced real fear on wheels

Most basic - 1961 TVR grantura with MGA twin cam engine just a large go kart only quite a bit faster

From a different planet - Citroen DS23 Pallas - the ride is truly amazing and what other car can go round corners on 3 wheels !

Most fun
lastly and no apologies here (sorry) but my stagea because I never tire of the looks on all the911/tt/etc drivers faces as an estate car makes them look silly.
