:sad2: frankly, i'm upset
this is not what we buy performance audi's for...chinned

here's an SOS to all A3 1.8t Quattro(150-180+hp) u wonderful lot wot fine taste in automobiles u have! lol

Anybody else ever experienced a minor/major stutter in power in the mid revs say 3500 - 4000? drives fine if you change up quickly but the minute u put your foot down the engine stutters, often pausing on ur current speed before (after a few jolts) accelerating properly.

Any Ideas?!

This is seriously hampering my whole enjoyment/driving experince, having to drive the car like a 1.8 n missing out on the turbo bliss.

Greatly appreciate any info/tech advise anybody can contribute to fixing this.

Many thanks all

really need to get it scanned mate.

it could be any of the following

MAF - very common and would probably suspect 1st
Coil Packs - again very common on the older cars not so bad on the 02+ ones but can still go
Diverter Valve - the thin rubber is prone to splitting causing a boost leak - replace with a S3 or TT one rather than the bog standard one.
N75 valve. this controls the boost pressure.

on the much older versions there was a voltage amplifier on the rocker cover as it gets rather hot it is prone to failure as well causing misfires

best bet would be to get it scanned see if there is any fault codes on the engine part of the ECU as not all put on the check light. if not have a look at the MAF readings (dont have the 150 readings at the min but do have the 180 versions somewhere. if not i can get them)

Really appreciate the feedback thanks bud:bigsmile:!

The thought that it could be the turbo was enough 2 have me weeping into my cornflakes:toung:!

Now thanks to you i've got a few more options to explore & at the very least you've armed me a bit of knowledge. That will be invaluable when it comes to avoiding getting ripped off at the garage.

On that note can you reccomend any audi specialists in the south dorset/south wales/east sussex area's ( i get around )?!

At the risk of sounding like a pleb can you explain what the acronym MAF actually stands for & how to interperet the readings (mines the 180hp version).

Thanks Again!!:D

Mass Air Flow - it measures the amount of air that passes over it and can work out mass of air going into the inlet and therfore work out the amount of fuel to use.
over time these can get covered in crud and then give bad readings - normally cause to run lean/rich. best way to test the problem is disconect the MAF and take the car for a run see if it runs better. (this makes it run on a generic map rather than 3D map)
MAF is the 1st electrical connector after the airbox see pic below ;)

Well tried disconnecting the MAF (as its the only thing i'm qualified to do:p),
still the same stutter but its moved higher up the rev range (midrange is smoother) & at least we've eliminated that from the enquiry.

Booked it in for a diagnostic as you suggested, hope that comes back with a fault code to work from.

Cheers mate:)
