She has a couple of minor problems that dont affect her in any way driving wise, but unless rectfied in the near future, will do! Im on it in the next two weeks, so no exciting updates at the mo, just mechanicals.
On the plus side, i paid approx £1600 LESS than market value, and the work needing doing will only cost me about £650 all in. so still almost a grand cheaper than it shoulda been after the works been done!

Bah, its the wrong way round to mine.

I was thinking about adapting a VP to fit my enigne but it need to turn the same way as my engine to even be in with a chance of working.

I hope all comes together for you P.

i saw wheeler dealers the other day where they put cossie leathers into there 70's type 2 camper. looked quite good tbh!
is this a norm thing on the vw camper scene??

Not so much in T4s, Saab leathers are the most common choice normally. But Vw have been using recaro since the 70s, but proper vw recaros ( mk1/2 golf) are UBER expensive!

Mine weren't! lol

engine is back!

Turbo arrives tomorrow :)

and got a power steering hose repaired for £40 today, saving me £200 on buying a new one from VW!

Bad times:
Conversion company/bloke being an arse, so may not be done for may now, as if he dont do it at that price i have 2 options,
1) pay out about £1500 more, 2) get cheaper quality stuff fitted.

The cheaper stuff isnt bad, but think id end up regretting it, just because id know it could be better quality. But on the other hand, its only the material inside the panels ( ie the wood between the laminate) that'd be different, and theres a MUCH wider selection of colours/finishes/ designs etc so could get a more bespoke conversion.... gonna have to price things up, have a think, and see whats what i think.

Good times:

This baby arrived today, as well as getting my ECU back.

Not a massive amount left to do now before she can go off to be put back together. Need to mount the drivers recaro on base, paint the dash and a pillar trims, weld over some pinholes in floor from chopping rails out, then paint floor with some hammerite. few other odds and sods left to do, and need to decide whether i get the bumpers colour coded now, or just wait til next year when she gets resprayed...

Its getting there :)

It's all looking very cool PM ;) If you can stand the wait, I would have the bumpers done next year with the respray; it will only be peppered with stonechips in a very short space of time after you start playing with the throttle

Seats were in my mates spare bedroom left over from a project that never happened :)

Drivers side is being properly welded onto the runners today, runner is standard T4 one bolted on standard T4 base, its the perfect size for the Recaro, just the bolt holes dont line up properly, and if i re drill the holes id have to remove the seat from its base first, tbh id rather just weld it to the runners! lol

Also going to have to do a bit of welding on the floor of the van, had to cut the old welds out that the old bongo seats were held to the floor with, so a few small holes to sort and paint before i can get the ply panels re done ready for conversion.

Gonna ring my recovery guy today and get the big move booked :)

Few more small bits and bobs done today,

Inlet manifold painted, needs a quick flatting down and another coat. cant really see the paint finish properly in the pics but hey ho

Cannot wait to get it off to LKM!

SHE'S GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the VW specialist to have her sexy new engine reassembled and fitted, timed up etc.

Have told the guy to take his time, for the price he's doing it for i dont care if it takes 6 weeks!

Last ill see of her for a while :(

but when i get her back she'll be running sweeter than ever and i can crack on with the conversion :)

Fair play mate,

At first when I read the email I thought you'd sold her. Sod.... lol

Nah, it looks good mate, keep up the good work. Diesel power all the way :)

hehe, had to be done, you lot all know what im like for not keeping motors long so had to have you's on!

im actually now more than happy with diesel! Ill always be a petrol head at heart, but the plan is to take the T4 to 250bhp in a year or two once iv recovered from the costs of all this lot!

iv been reading all the project info from the guys that have done it, Inlet and exhaust manifolds are the most restrictive areas of the engine, so custom manifolds, Bigger turbo, race nozzles, bigger plunger, FPR and some internal work, along with a heavy duty DMF/clutch setup should allow me to run the level of boost needed without sacrificing reliability too much. Not a difficult task, but will be an expensive one as the parts wont be "off the shelf" items.

Anyways, thats stage 4, not even completed stage 1 yet!

I remember those days! Stage 1 seemed like a life time ago, took me two years before I finally cracked the 300BHP mark ;)
6 weeks will seem like an eternity now before you get your baby back :(

Its only the money stopping me unfortunately :(

Power wise iv done stage 1,she's now up to 150bhp and 266ft/lb. will do for now until i have everything else in place, then she'll get more power :)

dont think it will take him 6weeks, but thats the amount of time i have given him. im fairly confident it'll be back within 3weeks. until then ill just have to stick to my not very impressive astravan!

Tiny update:

Inlet manifold was sent to the wheel specialist in fareham this week to be acid dipped to remove the cruddy carbon build up from inside. after having it dipped repeatedly it looked a bit shoddy, so it was sandblasted and powdercoated gloss black.

Result ( although my camera phone does it no justice whatsoever)

And all for the measly price of £50. WIN :)

i know where the rest of my powdercoating will be going!

Also getting my sheet of carbon next couple days to start building up what will eventually be the vans 12v control panel.

Also possibly selling the RS6 wheels in favour of some Mercedes AMG rims iv found selling for a quarter of their usual price due to having an odd wheel, but nothing a 10mm spacer wont sort for now!

Mate picked me up some carbon titanium sheet today, proper stuff, not vinyl! so going to get the dash surround pieces out soon and get them skinned up in CT :)

Also going to make my 12v control panel for the back out of it, and anything else i can think of! Win :)

Sounds like this 12v control panel is going to look like something from NASA Space Centre! Good Luck with it Captain!

WOW. i hadnt realised just how long ago this went away!well theres good news and bad news.....

Good news is the van comes back to me on the 22nd.
Bad news is im going to have to sell up :(

My work situation has taken a bit of a turn for the worse and i simply cant afford to have so much money tied up in a vehicle that realistically i have no need for, i have daily transport and also another project car on the go, and keeping a van that owes me so much money just sat there doing nothing would be massively selfish when i have a family to provide for and could be using the money in other ways to make more money.

So she comes back on the 22nd, the following week she will be going off for boarding and carpetting of the rear to make it look nice and get it ready for the new owner to put their interior/camper conversion in.

I am absolutely gutted to have to do this, but hopefully its the right choice, and if i can use the money wisely i should be able to turn an income and some nice profits from it, so hopefully there will be more money for the Golf!

That is a real shame to read the bad news PM :sad2: I for one liked this project very much! Here's hoping that something turns up at the last minute to keep the project alive for you ;)

Another one going!!!

Well, at least you're doing it for the right reasons. Providing for your family, I'm sure they appreciate it :) And keep up the work on the Golf.

Got this back last week, yesterday i drove it up to St.Neots in cambrideshire to be boarded and carpeted and have new windscreen fitted. My god what a drive!

This van is fully awesome now! Boosts to 20psi, then holds firm at a touch over a Bar. Pulls like a friggin steamtrain! Really dont wanna sell her now! But alas im going to be forced to do the right thing :( will put pics up once she is back from trimming and i have my wheels back from powder coaters etc!

Shame it has to go, but as you rightly say family comes first. Would like to see pictures of this before it goes.

Will do guys, unfortunately my astra van broke down on the M25 last night 40 miles from picking her up! so ended wasting all of my evening getting recovered by the AA and not picking my T4 up :(

will have it back tonight, so pics tomorrow!

Sorry to hear that, ruins a day when those things happen, not much else you can do but wait and look forward to the journey back home at a snails pace.
