Smart MR2

Hi all,

Thought you might like to see our latest hillclimb project, the world first Smart City Coupe with a 2 ltr MR2 engine and box (as far as we know). It's up and running and should be out on the Midland hills next year.

Awesome project, well done you two. What was the inspiration and thinking behind it? Love to see what the car is capable of, the power to weight ratio will be immense.

Jim has been competing the car with some modifications to the Brabus set up i.e. suspension and removal of excess weight for the last couple of years but the electronic gear change was a real nightmare and there were too many electronic gismos adding to the lack of dirver control. The last thing you want in a competition car is the throttle being shut down when you are in a corner just because the car senses that you may be about to have an accident.

We decided the only way to go was back to basics with a manual box and a bit more HP and the MR2 looked like the best fit. Shelsley Walsh here we come!
